First Team
PG- Trevor Nolan Trevor Nolan 5'8" | PG Munising | 2025 State MI 5-9 2025 Munising I’ll leave out the names to protect the innocent. I was sitting next to some people who are pretty plugged into UP basketball. When I asked for their quick scouting report. They of course started with Kane Nebel (see below) However they also added they thought the sophomore point guard was engine of the team. Boy were they right. Nolan played with a maturity beyond his years all weekend. Scored 11 points in the semifinals. More importantly showed his grit and aggressiveness by earning seven boards from the point guard position. Also scored seven and played a controlled all around game in the final.
SG- Trent Rice Trent Rice 5'10" | SG Marine City Cardinal Mooney | 2023 State MI 5-11 2023 Marine City Cardinal Mooney After a huge game in the quarterfinal. Rice kept his hot streak going at the Breslin Center. Stayed aggressive going to the basket all night. But was also good from beyond the arc. Keyed the Cardinals big third quarter comeback. The Oakland baseball commit wrapped up his hardwood career with a team high 19 points.
SF- Kane Nebel 6-2 2023 Munising **MVP** Coming up big in a state championship is always going to get most of the attention. As it should. However I was struck by Nebel’s senior leadership in the semifinal. As this list shows. Munising was very young. Starting three sophomores. As Cardinal Mooney came back in the third quarter. Nebel stepped forward and calmly took control of the game. Does that sound like hyperbole? How about a 16 point fourth quarter to finish with a game high 21 points. That made Saturday’s 14 point championship outing look like light work.
PF- Akias Giplaye 6-2 2024 Wyoming Tri Unity Christian Was not Tri Unity’s leading scorer. Frankly wasn’t even close to earning that distinction. However set the tone on the glass all weekend. Also wasn’t doing it against some small division IV frontline. Frankfort started 6-5 and 6-6 at the four and five positions. Led the charge that allowed the Defenders to nearly double up Frankfort on the glass (41-22) Also fouled out the Panthers starting center. Kept it up in Saturday’s final. Finished with 13 rebounds in a losing effort. At only 6-2. It’s goes without saying that he can really elevate quickly. Tri Unity returns quite a bit for next year. With more offensive development. Giplaye could be one of the top players in the division.
C- Jack Dusseault 6-3 2025 Munising After struggling through foul trouble Thursday night. Stayed away from the whistles and had an excellent game in Saturday’s final. Finished with eight points. However more importantly did a good job keeping Tri Unity’s big frontline from having too much of an advantage. Didn’t limit the rebounds. But did force most of the Defenders scoring to come from the perimeter.
Second Team
PG- Carter Kerby 5-11 2025 Frankfort This breakout prospect from Northern Michigan continued his outstanding tournament in Thursday’s semifinal loss. Going up against a really good young backcourt against Tri Unity. Kerby was the best guard on the floor. Kept coming all night. Even after the game appeared decided. Scored both at the rim and from beyond the arc. Finished with a team a game high 21 points. The top of the 2025 class is still beginning to take shape in Northern Michigan. The top player could come from the smallest division. Kerby is locked in an early two man race against Landon Kulawiak Landon Kulawiak 6'3" | CG Buckley | 2025 State MI . That is how good this point guard’s March play has been.
SG- Jordan Van Klompenberg 6-0 2024 Wyoming Tri Unity Christian While Giplaye was doing the dirty work down low. Van Klompenberg was Tri Unity’s main scorer out on the perimeter. Got off to a quick start on Thursday. But really came alive in Saturday’s final. Finished with a game high 15 points. Has slender lanky frame. This length allows him to play bigger than his listed height. Like his teammate Giplaye. Could be one of the top players in division next year.
SF- Quentin Hillaker Quentin Hillaker 6'1" | SF Cardinal Mooney | 2023 State MI 6-2 2023 Marine City Cardinal Mooney (pictured) Like the rest of his squad. Got off to a slow start on Thursday night. Was a big part of the third quarter comeback. Showed the shooting touch that has put him on small college recruiting boards. Finished with nine points. Concluding up an impressive career and Cinderella run for the Cardinals.
PF- Roy Fogg 6-2 2023 Wyoming Tri Unity Christian Tri Unity’s senior wrapped an excellent career with two good outings. Contributed to the aforementioned drastic rebounding advantage in the semifinals. Posted seven boards. Scored 11 points in both contests. Appeared to be playing through an injury at times as well.
C- Carson Kienitz 6-3 2025 Munising The last of Munising’s terrific sophomore trio. Similar in game and frame to teammate Jack Dusseault. Picked up the scoring slack while Dusseault sat on Thursday. Finished with 12 points in the semifinals. Didn’t have the scoring output on Saturday. However showed a clutch gene by calmly sinking two free throws to give his team a five point lead with about thirty seconds to go. With a state championship trophy in tow. The future remains bright for the Mustang program,
