From that collection of stars, we can create a pretty phenomenal All-Tournament team. We fudged a little by allowing a tie at one position and calling versatile superstar TJ Williams TJ Williams 6'5" | SG Wichita Heights | 2024 State #176 Nation KS a power forward.
Here is the 2023 6A All-Tournament Team:
PG – Grant Stubblefield Grant Stubblefield 6'2" | PG Blue Valley Northwest | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-2 guard, 2023, Blue Valley Northwest (pictured)
Stubblefield is the unquestioned player of the tournament. He made the plays when they were needed, produced in every aspect of the game and was incredibly efficient. Check out these three-game totals: 77 points, 25-45 field goal shooting, 21-30 free throw shooting, 6-13 3-point shooting, 13 assists. Stubblefield also led the Panthers in rebounds in two of the three games.
SG – (tie) Marcus Zeigler Jr Marcus Zeigler Jr 6'2" | PG Wichita Heights | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-1 guard, 2023, Wichita Heights and Kaeson Fisher-Brown Kaeson Fisher-Brown 6'2" | SG Derby | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-2 guard, 2023, Derby:
It was simply impossible to leave one of these two off the All-Tournament team, so we’ll call this a tie. Zeigler has the championship pedigree and did everything he could to bring another trophy to Wichita Heights. He averaged nearly 13 points per game, dealt out assists, played tough defense. Fisher-Brown kept the Panthers in a tough semifinal loss to Heights by getting 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in that game. He scored 41 points and collected 13 assists in the three game run to third-place.
SF – Dallas Metzger Dallas Metzger 6'3" | SF Derby | 2024 State KS , 6-foot-3 forward, 2024, Derby:
Metzger put up two really impressive numbers that give him this spot: 10 rebounds in the opening round victory over Olathe North, and 24 points in the consolation game against Blue Valley North. The sharpshooter finished with 42 points in the tournament.
PF – TJ Williams TJ Williams 6'5" | SG Wichita Heights | 2024 State #176 Nation KS , 6-foot-5 forward, 2024, Wichita Heights:
Williams plays nearly every spot on the floor and there’s really nothing he can’t do, so we feel safe putting him at the power forward spot on this team. His numbers are impressive, but they don’t even tell the whole story of just how impressive Williams is when you watch him. He’s a ball handler, a high riser, a defender at the rim and on the perimeter… He scored 61 points in the tournament, led his team in rebounds twice and assists once, and had them a few plays away from back-to-back titles.
C – Blake Garrett Blake Garrett 6'7" | PF Blue Valley North | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-7 center, 2023, Blue Valley North:
Blue Valley lost two games and finished fourth, but the separation from fourth and first is narrow. The Mustangs came just two points shy of playing in the championship game, and they lost the consolation game by one point in overtime. Give Garrett a ton of credit for his defense of the paint and some really impressive finishes. While Blue Valley divided some of the playing time amongst several good bigs, Garrett stands out. He scored 32 points and grabbed 28 boards, leading his team in rebounds in each game.
Sixth Man – Mason Anderson, 6-foot guard, 2024, Derby:
The best player off the bench in the tournament was Anderson. He played a majority of the minutes for the Panthers and was a difference maker. He’s a high-energy guy who’s constantly on the floor or flying through the air after 50/50 balls. He is disruptive at the defensive end and can score at every level. He shot it really well in the first two games, going 8-12 from the field and 4-6 from deep in the games against Olathe North and Wichita Heights combined. He finished the tournament with 28 points off the bench.
