“Mekhi (Stephens) is a perfect leader”

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Lansing High School versatile guard Mekhi Stephens gave his team over 19 points a game last season with shooting splits of 44/37/83 meaning this is a versatile and talented 2027 playmaker. But an even better leader and student athlete. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>"Mekhi is a perfect leader," Lansing Head Coach Larry Hogan said this summer to describe Stephens. "He leads by example, he leads with what he said, he leads in the classroom and character wise there is not a better kid. All three areas he is just a super leader. I really appreciate him. Mekhi is one of the hardest workers in the metro area."</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Stephens played 17u with PAC and used his size, pace and skill to score for PAC in a consistent way through most of the season. He helped the team in whatever way was needed for a good season. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>"My 17 and Under season went really well," Mekhi said. "Some highlights were being able to play in front of college coaches and being able to showcase my talent.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>"Some things I hope to accomplish for the rest of the summer and going into the fall is getting better on my weaknesses and staying in the gym so i'm ready for season."</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>When you listen to Coach Hogan in what he has to say, and when you talk about what he has done for Lansing and PAC, Stephens seems like a great all around fit for college basketball. So what teams are showing interest right now?</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>"Some colleges I'm talking to are Saint Mary's and Tabor," Stephens said. "I haven't went on any visits yet and right now I'm still looking around."</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The University of St. Mary has offered Stephens a scholarship and we would guess more schools will be following their lead in the next several months. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
