The end of the high school season is the best time to throw a fresh update on class rankings and our latest 2024 update went live earlier this month. In this piece we break down how the point guard position is shaping up in SoCal's 2024 class.

[player_tooltip player_id='1502769' first='Trent' last='Perry'] is the top point guard in the class

The Harvard-Westlake standout led the Wolverines to the CIF State Open Division championship with his combination of high IQ playmaking in transition and half-court offense in addition to his ability to take over a game offensively. Perry had established himself as one of the best pure shooters in the class and, once he took the reigns of the point guard spot, he has evolved into one of the best floor generals on the west coast.

Next Up...

[player_tooltip player_id='1502778' first='Lawrence' last='Rudolph'], St. Augustine

Rudolph checks in as the No. 2 overall point guard in SoCal's 2024 class and the No. 1 player in the San Diego region. Rudolph put together an impressive season of winning for the Saints and what makes him such a good player at this level is his physicality, speed, strength and the motor in which he plays with. Rudolph is one of the best drivers and finishers in the class who can also defend at a high level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1502803' first='Aaron' last='Powell'], Campbell Hall

Powell established himself as one of the better pure playmakers and signal callers in this class after a handful of very strong performances against some of the region's top teams. Powell plays with great patience and poise and can pick apart a defense in transition with advance passes or paint touches and has the shooting ability off the dribble to keep defenders guessing on his next move.

Jermaine Washington, Jr., Rancho Verde

If you were to put together a list of best athletes in this class, Washington's name would be among the top five. The 6-foot-1 point guard has elite speed in transition and explosive blow-by ability in the half-court setting. Perhaps his best attribute is his ability to elevate on his jumper and finishes at the rim. Washington can shoot over just about any closeout and nullify's rim protectors with his elevation off of one or two feet.

[player_tooltip player_id='1502796' first='Darnez' last='Slater'], Roosevelt

We like Slater's ability to impact the game in a variety of ways. At 6-feet-3 the Roosevelt guard is a great positional and team defender who can also guard the wing. Offensively, Slater knows how to diagnose the pulse of his team and deliver what's needed. He proved that he can take over a game by scoring in bunches but can also give confidence to his teammates with drive and kick set up passes.

The end of the high school season is the best time to throw a fresh update on class rankings and our latest 2024 update went live earlier this month. In this piece we break down how the point guard position is shaping up in SoCal's 2024 class.
