Continue ReadingWe recently updated our sophomore class rankings in the state of VA, and we will take a look at each positional ranking from guards, wings and forwards. Obviously some of these players are positionless players that can fit in multiple spots, but we did our best to categorize them based on their skillset.
Here’s a look at part two of the top point and combo guards in the new rankings.
15) Kassidy Jackson Kassidy Jackson 5'9" | PG Green Run | 2025 State VA | 5’9” PG | Green Run (#33 Overall)
Jackson is one of the top young guards in the 757 area, and has made a huge impact on a young Green Run team that has been successful against a very good schedule this year. He is a dynamic ball handler with a quick first step and is super shifty, he’s ablate get in the paint where he’s a good finisher at the rim and in the midrange and he’s a very good defender who can stay in front of ball handlers the length of the floor.
14) Camryn Pacheco Camryn Pacheco 6'4" | CG Spotswood | 2025 State VA | 6’3” CG | Spotswood (#31 Overall)
Pacheco is emerging as one of the top players in the Harrisonburg area, as he’s building on a good freshman season by becoming the go-to guy for his sophomore year. The 6’3” combo is a knock down shooter from deep with good form and good range, he plays with good pace and can get to spots off the bounce to score it and he has good instincts on the defensive end to make plays as well.
13) Kenny Chicas Kenny Chicas 6'2" | PG Woodgrove | 2025 State VA | 6’2” PG | Woodgrove (#30 Overall)
Chicas is the type of productive young guard you like to see, as he has great fundamentals and plays the game with an understanding well beyond his years. The 6’2” guard has good size already making him a difference maker defensively with his quick feet and size, he gets them into sets and plays within the system without making mistakes and he is a threat to both score it and make plays for others off the bounce.
12) Jordan Hairstonn Jordan Hairstonn 5'10" | PG Blue Ridge | 2025 VA | 5’11” PG | Blue Ridge (#28 Overall)
Hairston is on a talented Blue Ridge team with a lot of experienced guards so at times he gets overshadowed, but we’ve seen him enough to know that he has a lot of talent moving forward. He’s a smooth operating guard who handles pressure and gets his team in sets, he changes speeds well and has a good handle and he makes good decisions whether it’s calling his own number or making plays for others.
11) Troy Henderson Troy Henderson 5'9" | PG Lancaster | 2025 State VA | 5’10” PG | Lancaster (#27 Overall)
One of the best players in the VHSL Class 1 classification, Henderson has Lancaster poised for a state championship run and as sophomore could be in the running for POY this year. The 5’10” guard is highly skilled as he knows how to get to spots with the ball in his hands and is good at creating space and making tough shots, he is an excellent playmaker with good vision and he’s a very good on ball defender too.
10) Jeremiah Gorham Jeremiah Gorham 6'0" | PG Highland | 2025 State VA | 5’10” PG | Highland School (#26 Overall)
Gotham is part of a very talented backcourt for a Highland team that has been the surprise of the year so far, and he’s just scratching the surface with how good he can be. He’s super quick and shifty with the ball in his hands allowing him to touch the paint and make plays, he’s a very good shooter from deep off the catch and off the bounce and he has that “it” factor as a guy who makes plays on both ends of the floor.
9) Khalil Caple Khalil Caple 6'4" | CG Norfolk Collegiate | 2025 State VA | 6’3” CG | Norfolk Collegiate (#25 Overall)
Caple is part of a young NoCo team that is going to be very good moving forward if they all stay together, and he’s having a good year for them doing a little bit of everything until he gets his chance to be the guy. At 6’3” he has good size and athleticism at the guard position, he defends and rebounds and does all the dirty stuff and he’s capable of creating shots for himself and others off the bounce.
8) Shane Lincoln Shane Lincoln 6'4" | PG Bishop O'Connell | 2025 State VA | 6’4” PG | Bishop O’Connell (#24 Overall)
Lincoln is in a crowded backcourt at O’Connell and is delegated to a similar role with some other guys being the go-to scorers, but he has tremendous potential and his all-around style is very intriguing. He has a great wingspan and may still be growing and he already has good size for his position, he’s very savvy and smart on both ends of the floor and he has a natural fluidity to his game that should only get better with time.
7) Masiah Stevens Masiah Stevens 5'10" | PG Woodside | 2025 State #263 Nation VA | 5’10” PG | Woodside (#20 Overall)
Stevens is one of the most dynamic young guards in the 757, and despite playing in a backcourt that includes Richmond commit and senior Trevor Smith Trevor Smith 5'11" | PG Woodside | 2023 State #267 Nation VA he still finds ways to be productive. While he isn’t the biggest guy Stevens is super quick off the bounce and can touch the paint at will, he can score it in bunches from all over the floor and is a good shooter from deep and he really thrives on the defensive end where he can pressure the ball the length of the floor.
6) Ashton Walker Ashton Walker 6'5" | PG Catholic | 2025 State #172 Nation VA | 6’0” PG | Oak Hill Red (#19 Overall)
While Walker doesn’t play on the national Oak Hill team, he is still young and would have been perhaps the best guard in the Beach District if he chose to stay at Salem. He’s a natural talent at the point guard position as he’s super shifty off the bounce and plays with great pace, he is a natural playmaker with good vision and the ability to make others better and he can score the ball efficiently from all three levels. He’s a name to watch as he continues to improve and could be an impact guy in the NIBC in the next few years.
