An intense and defensive minded first half ended with Methacton leading 25-19. However, Spring Ford came out of the locker room after halftime and blitzed Methacton with a 21-12 third quarter. That run produced a three-point lead (40-37) headed not the 4th quarter.
Methacton regained its footing in the 4th quarter and tied the score. The teams went back and forth throughout the final minutes of the game and overtime was needed to decide this one. Eventually SF won in OT 59-52. Spring Ford’s record now stands at 20-1.
Below is a review of the college prospects involved in last night’s Spring Ford vs. Methacton overtime thriller.
Spring Ford
EJ Campbell EJ Campbell 6'0" | CG Spring Ford | 2024 State PA – 6’1” / Junior / K-Low Elite / Combo Guard: Campbell is a versatile and smooth operator who can run at either guard spot. As a lead guard he can use his elusive handles and blow by speed to score or distribute. From the two-guard spot Campbell can score off the bounce, slash to the rim for a catch and lay-in and drain threes. He scored 21 points (3 threes) last night.
Tommy Kelly – 6’5” / Sophomore / Philly Pride National / Wing: Kelly (9 ppg.) is a Swiss Army knife player who has become a key member of this SF squad as a sophomore. Last night it was his defense and energy that really caught our attention. On the offensive end, Kelly (5 points) is not afraid to compete in the paint an absorb contact. He is a solid passing big man as well.
Caleb Little – 5’11” / Senior / Point Guard: Little (8 points & 8 dimes) is a plus player at both ends of the floor. On offense, he can get to rim at will. Plus, his ability to draw fouls is James Harden-ish. His court vision and the timing of his passess was tremendous. At the defensive end, Little applies menacing on-ball pressure.
Jacob Nguyen Jacob Nguyen 6'3" | SG Spring Ford | 2025 State PA – 6’3” / Sophomore / Philly Pride National / Shooting Guard: It is well known in southeastern Pennsylvania that Nguyen is an automatic three-point shooter. Thus, Methacton was focused on running Nguyen off the arc. Nguyen (20 points) responded by showcasing his entire scoring skill set. He got buckets in the mid-range, at the rim and via floaters. He did manage to splash 2 triples for good measure.
Methacton
Cam Chilson Cam Chilson 6'0" | SG Methacton | 2023 State PA – 6’0” / Senior / East Coast Power / Combo Guard: With Matt Christian Matt Christian 6'3" | CG Methacton | 2023 State PA cooking last night (see below), Chilson (2 pts.) played much more of a facilitator role in this game. His high basketball IQ, composure and precision passing were big factors for Methacton in this contest. Chilson averages 9 points per night.
Matt Christian Matt Christian 6'3" | CG Methacton | 2023 State PA – 6’3” / Senior / Eastern PA Elite / Shooting Guard: Last night this athletic and high IQ prospect absolutely torched the nets from deep. Christian knocked home 7 threes on his way to a game high 28 points. His unique ability to elevate and then pull the trigger at the top of his jump enables Christian to shoot over double teams with ease. Christian is automatic from the free throw line too.
Alex Hermann – 6’2” / Junior / Eastern PA Elite / Shooting Guard: One of the PAC’s breakout stars for 2022-23, Hermann (14.5 ppg.) continued to impress us last night. Hermann used the dribble to get to the rack where he finished in several creative ways. Hermann’s mid-range game is also a nice weapon and he can serve as a primary ball handler if needed. He recorded 13 points vs. SF.
