Things of note:
The entire game wasn’t viewed, but I was able to see the skills, frame, and athletic ability of these prospects.
Mitchell has many notable prospects with well-developed games or that possess immense upside. Some may be missed in this post. There’s a lot of excitement in the future of the Mitchell basketball program, which has young prospects that are considered elite prospects in South Dakota.
Stevens has some overlooked prospects that are mentioned.
There was only a total of 15 points in the first quarter in this matchup. Not a ton of offensive firepower in the opening portion of this game. At halftime there was a combined 34 points in the game. Let’s get started with some evaluations below.
Mitchell 54 @ Rapid City Stevens 48
Mitchell Prospects:
Aiden Myers Aiden Myers 6'1" | PG Mitchell | 2023 State SD – 6’1″ PG 2023 – Mitchell – Myers is a real solid point guard for the Kernels. Has everything you need to play the position at the AA level. A good handle on the ball and a quick crossover to relieve pressure and keep the defense off from playing tight positioning. Has a natural three-point shot.
Markus Talley – 6’0″ G 2025 – Mitchell – The 2025 prospect was quiet in the early goings in this matchup but is considered a top 10 2025 prospect in the state. A “pure” basketball player and athlete that has combo guard ability. Myers controls the point but Talley looks to have the ability to man that position as well. An ambidextrous passer that is smooth with the ball in general. Also, a quick and sound defender that plays perfect positioning and balance on that end.
Steele Morgan

Mitchell | 2023
SD
– 6’5″ F 2023 – Mitchell – The first thing Steele brought to the table was his tenacity and physicality. Steele plays a game that doesn’t have much wasted movement to it. Plays hard and tough, going straight at the hoop when he’s near the block. A winning player that can also shoot the ball and make shots.
Dylan Soulek Dylan Soulek 6'3" | SG Mitchell | 2023 State SD – 6’3” G 2023 – Mitchell – If you watch closely enough, Soulek has high-level court vision and understanding of where to pass the ball. One of the most impressive non-PG passers I’ve seen. Has the ability to through a cross-court skip-pass right on the money. Very high on this prospect with his athleticism as well. Pure athletic ability on the court. Moves well, glides, and jumps quickly and high off the ground. Caught an alley-oop off of a back-screen for an easy lay-in. Mitchell obviously looks to capitalize on Soulek’s athleticism. Committed to Northern State University baseball.
Gavin Soukup Gavin Soukup 6'3" | SG Mitchell | 2024 State SD – 6’2″ G 2024 – Mtichell – Really like Soukep as a prospect. The 6’2″ G/Wing has length and movement. Runs the floor with effort and speed, and that stood out right away. Hit a three to close out the 1st quarter. It looked smooth and natural from that range.
Charlie McCardle Charlie McCardle 6'1" | SF Mitchell | 2023 State SD – 6’1″ F/C 2023 – Mitchell – McCardle has a thick frame at 6’1″ which puts him in the interior, where he uses that frame and strength to play back-to-the-basket — old school style. Has some good footwork and go-to and combination moves. Used the glass to his advantage. Hit a three as well from the wing spot and it looked smooth and natural.
Colton Smith Colton Smith 6'5" | PF Mitchell | 2026 State SD – 6’4″-6’5″ F 2026 – Mitchell – Smith is the #1 rated 2026 prospect in the state and has it all. You’ll be seeing his name plenty on the site in the coming years. A rising star with lengthy arms that nearly reach his knees. Although, considered a top prospect, Smith plays within the game and doesn’t force action at this point in his career.
Rapid City Stevens Prospects:
Dayler Segrist – 6’2” G 2025 – Rapid City Stevens – Dayler is a baller. Segrist looked to me to be the best guard prospect for Stevens. The Sophomore guard has a basketball players frame. Not a big frame but has that basketball frame to him that allows him to move at an elite level and play extremely fast. Can handle the ball and moves well without the ball as well. Below, this tweet shows Segrist’s ability to score from deep. A playmaker as a passer to round out his game. Truly an ascending prospect in the state that has caught the attention of Prep Hoops Dakotas.
Madinko Hawley Madinko Hawley 6'4" | SF Rapid City Stevens | 2024 State SD – 6’4″ F/C 2024 – Rapid City Stevens – Hawley’s college-level length and physical profile stood out in this matchup. He has some physicality to his play. Took the ball from the top of the three-point line quickly off the dribble and showed an athletic spin-move that turned into a kick-out for a three-point attempt.
Nash Sobszak – 6’4″ F 2023 – Rapid City Stevens – Nash picked up two early fouls in the first minute. He was immediately removed from the game. Someone to watch again soon to get a better handle on.
Minkah Hawley Minkah Hawley 6'4" | SF Rapid City Stevens | 2025 State SD – 6’2″ G 2025 – Rapid City Stevens – The 2025 prospect screams upside to me with his length and athleticism.
Kaelem Brooks Kaelem Brooks 6'2" | SF Rapid City Stevens | 2025 State SD – 6’1″ G/F 2025 – Rapid City Stevens – Brooks replaced Sobszak after he received the initial couple of fouls. Brooks looks the part with a long frame at 6’1″ and some athletic ability to him. Moves well and is versatile offensively and defensively. Plays inside and outside on both ends.
Thomas Martian – 6’5″ C 2024 – Rapid City Stevens – Martian is a true as a post as you’ll find nowadays. 6’5″ and a big and thick frame. Best overall size for Stevens.
