Monday – Davion Johnson Davion Johnson 6'6" | PF Carters Christian Academy | 2026 WI (Milwaukee Washington) vs Simeon Murchison Simeon Murchison 6'9" | PF Milwaukee Bay View | 2023 State WI (Milwaukee Hamilton)
Intriguing post matchup to watch on Monday night as sophomore big Davion Johnson Davion Johnson 6'6" | PF Carters Christian Academy | 2026 WI will face off with one of the top senior frontcourt players in the state in Simeon Murchison Simeon Murchison 6'9" | PF Milwaukee Bay View | 2023 State WI . Davion is a big body down low for Washington. He’s listed at 6’4 but when I’ve seen him play he looks noticeably taller than that. Has a strong frame with very long arms making him a dangerous shot blocker. As a sophomore he’s averaging 12.9 ppg showing flashes of impressive post footwork and touch around the rim. Simeon is arguably the top big in the state when it comes to running the floor to makes plays in transition. He’s such a hard worker who rebounds hard on both ends of the floor, and has the quick second bounce to get right back up with offensive boards for two points. Simeon is averaging an impressive 19.2 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 4.1 blocks per game while manning the paint for Hamilton.
Tuesday – Rico Yarbrough (Beloit Memorial) vs Reak Riak Reak Riak 6'7" | PF Madison La Follette | 2023 State WI (Madison La Follette)
Rico has had a breakout senior year for Beloit Memorial, putting up big scoring numbers in one of the state’s toughest conferences. The 6’6 lefty wing has to be accounted for from beyond the arc, as he has a smooth release and his confidence seems to grow with each make. He rebounds the ball well, and then has the ability to put the ball on the floor and push the tempo in transition with his handle. Strong finisher off two feet. Averaging 21.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game this season. Reak has impressive physical attributes as a long and explosive 6’6 wing. Defensively he’s an impressive shot blocker because he has the agility to get into position and then the quick bounce to get off the floor and swat shots. He may not be the biggest scoring threat, but his defensive ability could be key in slowing down Rico, and it should be an interesting matchup to watch if La Follette decides to guard him that way.
Wednesday – Anthony Carter Anthony Carter 6'0" | PG Greenfield | 2023 State WI (Greenfield) vs Jaden Guyton Jaden Guyton 6'0" | PG Whitefish Bay | 2023 WI (Whitefish Bay)
These two senior guards are both having big seasons for competitive programs. Anthony has a dangerous pull-up jumper and is so skilled at creating his own shots off the dribble. He won’t force it a ton, but when his team needs a bucket he’s a player who can put the ball on the floor and put two points on the board by himself. He’s not just a scorer though as Carter also averages a team high 4.2 assists per game. Whitefish Bay is fresh off an upset win over Nicolet, and will look to pull off another upset against Greenfield. Guyton has been a major breakout player this season, scoring 23 ppg including highs of 49 and 42. He’s one of those players who can heat up in a hurry, and because of his ability to score at all three levels he’s very unpredictable. Even if his shot isn’t falling, he can still hurt opposing defenses because he’s so skilled at drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line for easy points.
Thursday – Ben Healy Ben Healy 6'3" | SG Hudson | 2023 WI (Hudson) vs Tyler Orr Tyler Orr 5'10" | PG Rice Lake | 2023 State WI (Rice Lake)
Thursday’s matchup to watch takes us close to the Minnesota border as a pair of senior guards will clash in Rice Lake. Ben has good positional size, and uses it to his advantage to get to the rim and score. Despite leading his team in scoring, he may be even better on defense as his size and athleticism as a guard allow him to defend smaller guards and utilize his length to contest shots at a high level. Tyler Orr Tyler Orr 5'10" | PG Rice Lake | 2023 State WI is an explosive scorer for Rice Lake who can catch fire from beyond the arc. He may lack size against Healy, but his quick release and 44.8% 3 point shot will force his man to step out well beyond the arc. Tyler can handle the ball for his team, but also operate off the ball where he’s so dangerous running off screens to get into space on the perimeter. Orr is a 23.4 ppg scorer who has been extremely consistent this winter.
Friday – Dominic Hill Dominic Hill 6'2" | PG Waukesha West | 2023 State WI (Waukesha West) vs Drew Wagner Drew Wagner 5'7" | PG Kettle Moraine | 2024 WI (Kettle Moraine)
This Friday night Classic Eight matchup features a pair of skilled and experienced guards. Dominic leads West with 18.8 ppg. He has solid size at 6’2 and is such a crafty finisher when he gets around the basket. Dominic has excellent body control that allows him to finish with some impressive reverse lay-ups, and because he looks to attack the basket he’s very efficient as a lot of his shots will come from within 5 feet. Also shoots a lot of free throws as he’s constantly attacking the basket and drawing contact. Drew Wagner Drew Wagner 5'7" | PG Kettle Moraine | 2024 WI is one of the best two-sport athletes in the state as he’s been playing varsity since his freshman year, has over 1,000 career points already, and is a high level football recruit as well. He may not have traditional basketball size at 5’9, but he’s incredibly quick with the ball in his hands. Defenders have such a hard time keeping him in front as he’s able to get to his spots and pull-up for mid-range jumpers. Scoring 18.5 ppg but he’s scored 20+ in each of Kettle Moraine’s last six games.
