They will all get a chance to prove themselves at districts, but next season is a more realistic timeline to expect breakouts from these talented younger players.
Last season, Clemmons stood out as an athlete, but getting himself in positions to show that athleticism was a problem. He looks to have polished his game up, incorporating his jumper more and showing he can create space with the dribble. He’s an active guy who still has a lot of untapped potential but when he puts it all together, could be a guy that makes big strides and emerges as a top 1A player.
Amare Breedlove
Amare Breedlove
Breedlove has fit in seamlessly to Annie Wright’s starting lineup as a freshman. He provides some good shooting out to 3-point range, can finish inside through contact, and has some good instincts that keep him from making a lot of negative plays. I have high hopes for Breedlove as a guy that could develop into a physically strong scorer, who’s able to operate with some finesse and be a secondary playmaker from different areas of the floor.
D’Anjou Ellis
D’Anjou Ellis
Ellis plays for a team hovering around the top 10 in the 2B. When you watch them play, it is clear he is the engine that makes that train go and he shows a real knack for scoring the ball. He has good quickness, can bury the jumper from all levels, and brings an intensity to both sides of the court. He has the look of a kid who wants to be the best, and could develop into a pretty nice two-way player who can score in a variety of ways.
Noah Gadd-Lewis
Noah Gadd-Lewis
Gadd-Lewis hasn’t played a ton when I watched West Valley, but he has the look of a guy that could really emerge as a strong guard when he finally works his way up the rotation. He has good quickness and looks to have a strong base that anchors his defensive ability and can also shoot the ball fairly well. The biggest thing that stood out with his time on the court was being ready for every opportunity. Defense, offense, it doesn’t matter, he is a guy ready to contribute however he can and could be a nice player for the Eagles next season.
Cameron Draculan
Cameron Draculan
Draculan is an interesting player, standing only 6-foot, yet playing in the frontcourt. What caught my eye was his ability to make things happen. Even being undersized inside, he was able to show off some skill scoring the ball and some scrappiness on the boards. He plays a physical game and what gives me hope for his future is the potential for a real jumper to develop. He showed good touch on the open shots, and if he can extend that range, he has some potential to be a physical offensive threat.
