Eli Pockette, 5’11 G – Rutland High School Class of 2023
Pockette is finding his form as we head mid-way into the winter season. Eli dropped 16 against a solid Middlebury squad in RHS’ sole game of the week. His three-level scoring and playmaking are key for RHS as they scrap to put W’s together. He creates lots of offense out of ball screen action plus he’s a versatile defender who loves to get out in transition. Pockette is getting his groove.
Sawyer Ramey Sawyer Ramey 5'10" | PG Deerfield Academy | 2024 State NLG , 5’10 G – Fair Haven Union High School Class of 2023
Sawyer’s a top tier PG in the 802, and he showed exactly why against BBA. Ramey took the game over from the tip with his incredible playmaking. He created constant offense with his one-step-ahead vision and precise passing, even from 50 feet. Plus, scored it at all three-levels, reeled in boards, and turned defense to offense with a number of steals. Ramey is rolling and Fair Haven is 8-0.
Adam Bilodeau, 6’2 G – Rice Memorial High School Class of 2023
The swingman put on a scoring exhibition against an athletic BHS squad. Bilodeau finished with 19 points and he got it a number of different ways. He’s an agile slasher and finished well amongst the bigs inside. Plus, he can knock it down in the mid-range or from deep, most effectively off the catch. He plays 1-3 and is a pesky defender; his two-way abilities were on full display. RMHS remains undefeated.
Zach Davis, 6’5 F – Colchester High School Class of 2024
Inside and out, Zach is a threat. Davis put down a monster 30-point game against a scrappy BFA St. Albans and 11 against a defensive-minded MMU team. Davis stroked it from deep, off both the dribble and catch, and showed his post work as well. Moreover, he has over-the-top vision and created looks when the defense collapsed. He defends 3-5 and has nice quickness for his size. Zach has been on a tear.
Carson Cody, 6’2 G/W – Montpelier High School Class of 2025
Carson can’t be denied. Cody but up a 24-piece against Harwood this past week with strong takes to the cup, free throws, and jumpers as well. MHS plays at a fast pace with their pressure defense, a great fit for the long and athletic Cody. He’s a hawk on ballhandlers, rotates quickly when in scramble mode, and is a coast-to-coast threat. Carson and MHS are vying for the number 1 slot in D2. We’ll see how that shakes out Friday against Spaulding.
Owen Traynor, 5’10 G – Mount Saint Joseph’s High School Class of 2023
Traynor threw his name in the hat for game of the year with a boisterous 53-point performance against Windsor. Owen can get it in a lot of ways. He dropped eight threes but didn’t settle. Traynor made it a point to finish at the rim plus he converted his FT’s at a high rate. Nonetheless, he moved the ball well and set screens for others, playing instinctively off of those actions to create scoring opportunities. I’ve got my eye on Owen.
Drew Bessette Drew Bessette 6'7" | PF Rice Memorial | 2024 State NLG , 6’7 F – Rice Memorial High School Class of 2024
Bessette has the ability to fill a stat-sheet until there’s no longer space, but on an especially deep Rice squad, Drew plays a highly efficient and effective role. He put up 17 points one game and 11 in the next, but he does so much more than score. He’s a defensive anchor in the paint, a force on the boards, and he can defend the perimeter. Plus, his huge dunks can demoralize opponents. Drew’s all-around game and team-first mentality make him special.
Dylan Hamilton, 6’0 G/W – Mount Mansfield Union High School Class of 2023
Dylan gets the nod this week after a couple of strong performances. He put up 21 points against a solid South Burlington squad then followed that up with 13 points in a big overtime win against Colchester, a team that had been rolling. Hamilton has a sweet stroke all over the court, especially off the catch. Off the dribble, he gets in the second layer and finishes plays with floaters or crisp kick outs. Hamilton plays smart and steady.
