The beginning of the week had me thinking “Julius Thedford is definitely a top five prospect in the 2024 class, and Alijah Curry Alijah Curry 6'8" | PF Camden | 2024 State #314 Nation NJ is starting to look like the force many envisioned he would be coming into high school.”
Those were random observations following Memphis East’s home win over Whitehaven on Tuesday night.
Here’s the best from the first week of January.
Alijah Curry, Memphis East: Curry had 23 points and 16 rebounds in a 66-51 win over the Whitehaven Tigers.
Julius Thedford, Whitehaven: Thedford led the Tigers with 25 points against the Memphis East Mustangs.
Corbin Bowling, Fayette Academy: Bowling had 19 points in a 54-44 win over Westminster. JBrady Orr had 12, and Miles Dawkins finished with 11.
Javar Daniel, Bartlett: Daniel had 16 points, six rebounds, three blocks, and two steals in a win over Houston.
Cordarious Sledge, Power Center Academy: Sledge had 21 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocks in a 91-42 win over Sheffield. Nazir Allen recorded 10 points, 16 rebounds, and six blocks. Jayden Johnson had 10 points, eight assists, and six steals. Marcus Prewitt provided 10 points and four steals. Jordan Brooks pitched in seven points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks.
Andrew Thomas, MHEA: Thomas had 16 points in a win over Tipton-Rosemark Academy. Robert Dawkins had 14.
Eric Jones, Fayette Ware: Jones had 20 points in the Wildcats’ win over Union City. Jairus Terry had 18 points. Damarien Yates provided 10 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists. Jeremiah Hayes pitched in 14 points and five rebounds.
Christian Alston, Bartlett: Alston had 14 points, six rebounds, two steals, and one assist in a 43-41 win over St. Augustine (LA) in the Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic.
Zane Lawhon, Loudon: Lawhon had 17 points, six assists, five rebounds, three steals, and two blocks in a win over Sequoyah.
Cameron Hudson, Memphis Central: Hudson had 18 points, 11 rebounds, six blocks, five assists, and one steal in a loss to Memphis East.
Delrico Grady, KIPP: Grady had 23 points, nine assists, and four steals in a win over Freedom Prep. Dominic Taylor provided 14 points and five assists. Dion White added 10 points and five assists.
Noah Major, Friendship Christian: Major led the team with 14 points in a loss to Ezell Harding. Xavier Humphrey had 12.
Tyler Reliford, City University: Reliford had 27 points, eight assists, and five rebounds in a win over Memphis School of Excellence. Cohen Butler added 16 points and 25 rebounds.
Regale Moore, Bartlett: Moore had 10 points, four assists, three rebounds, and one block in a 65-30 win over Archbishop Shaw (LA) in the Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Showcase.
Sophomore point guard KJ Neville and junior forward Jack Shackelford were named to the Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Showcase All-Tournament Team.
Caiden Botts, Bradley Central: Botts had 14 points and 14 rebounds in a 55-47 win over Stewarts Creek.
Amett Hayes, Webb School: Hayes had 21 points in a 56-55 win over Columbia Academy. Stephen Olononiyi had 14. Eli Brown added 13.
Gabe Davenport, Columbia Academy: Davenport had 25 points in a win over Franklin Road Academy. Jake Ballard provided 15. Ryan Bernath added 11.
EJ Jordan, FRA: Jordan had 31 points in a loss to the CA Bulldogs. BJ Wesley had 14, and Blake Lance provided 10.
Jacob Gazzo, Briarcrest: Gazzo had 25 points and seven rebounds in a win over Memphis East. Cooper Haynes had 21 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Fred Smith provided 13 points and five rebounds.
Jamarcus Powell, Lausanne: Powell had 26 points in a win over First Assembly Christian School. Seth Grandberry had 14, and Tre Davis provided 11.
MJ Hayes, FACS: Hayes led the Crusaders with 25 points against the Lausanne Lynx.
Tylon Chatman, Haywood: Chatman had 21 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and one steal in a road win at Fayette Ware.
Hugh McFarland, Germantown: McFarland led the Red Devils with 22 points in their home win over Southwind.
Jerrod Mackey, Hillcrest: Mackey had a career-high 40 points and 17 rebounds in a 64-49 win over Oakhaven.
Ben Groth, Tennessee Heat: Groth had 33 points and eight rebounds in a loss to Columbia Academy.
