Whorton is a project big but he’s in a great system at STVM with an excellent coaching staff to develop him. His father was a great player and Whorton looks young, so he probably has another couple inches to grow over the next year or so. Starting to get more minute’s game by game for the Irish, Whorton’s best game I’ve seen came against Sierra Canyon (CA) where he was going against future Division I prospects. Like the long-term upside with Whorton and am excited to check back in with his progress soon, he plays hard, has some shooting touch and good natural athleticism.
Highlights
Taft has a loaded roster this year and while some players are blossoming as upperclassmen, they have some young talent that’s been shining as well. Smith is an athletic forward who can faceup and attack a closeout, knock down an open jumper and score in transition. Smith is scoring 5 PPG for Taft this season and those numbers will only be going up over the next two years.
Bishop Hartley is a team led by young players and Nicholas is an intriguing forward. Limited with foul trouble in the game I saw, in the minutes he was out there I liked a lot of what he brought to the table. Nicholas is athletic, as shown by some of his highlight dunks posted this season. I also really liked the motor that Nicholas plays with and he’s the most productive prospect at the varsity level highlighted in this article.
Finally, we have Matt Lunne Matt Lunne 6’6″ | C Kettering Alter | 2025 State OH , a big-bodied post with a bruiser style that uses strength and toughness to be effective on the court. Lunne has good size and can move his feet defensively but is still progressing as an offensive player. The game I saw against Bishop Fenwick, Lunne had a couple blocks and showed some defensive potential. Alter has a team led by a trio of senior guards so Lunne will have to play a much bigger role next season if the Knights want to continue to compete in the GCL-Co-ed.
