While the guards at Aiken get their deserved attention, I don’t believe their team would be anywhere near as successful without a guy like Smith in the paint. Currently second in the CMAC in FG% at 65%, Smith is also averaging almost 8 rebounds a night as well. With his team looking to defend their CMAC title, Smith provides the versatility to defend multiple positions, score on the interior and run in transition. Hoping to see Smith become a consistent presence as a shot blocker and show some more counter moves in the half-court but the efficiency he’s playing with to start the season is encouraging.

A very intriguing athlete from the forward position, Smith has some impressive quick twitch and burst ability. Able to play above the rim and change directions and speeds smoothly, Smith has a lot of athletic upside. Hoping he can put it all together as a senior, last year Smith averaged 8.4 points and 6.8 rebounds for the CMAC champions, I expect to see a rise in both of those numbers this winter. If Smith can improve his production, he could be a late blooming riser as his best basketball is ahead of him.

Taft has a loaded roster this year and while some players are blossoming as upperclassmen, they have some young talent that’s been shining as well. Smith is an athletic forward who can faceup and attack a closeout, knock down an open jumper and score in transition. Smith is scoring 5 PPG for Taft this season and those numbers will only be going up over the next two years.

Smith transferred from North College Hill and has some intriguing physical tools at 6’6. Has a ways to go with production and skills on the ball but Smith plays hard and will only get better next to the stars that Taft can surround him with. I expect Smith to be a late bloomer who plays his best basketball in the next couple of years, a name to track for the future.
