On Friday I went to see one of the hottest teams in Toledo in Central Catholic play against a tough and fast-playing Lima Senior but CCHS continued their success by picking up the huge 67-61 win in the TRAC. Then on Saturday night, I made my way to Ottawa-Glandorf as I watched them play a big out-of-conference game against Findlay and OGHS win that one 62-48. This article will cover the top players from these games.
West was phenomenal on Tuesday night for the Panthers. He was just doing it all. He was being very aggressive defensively for the full-court pressure Whitmer put on and this led to a lot of easy transition buckets. The moves he was making in the lane around the basket were so tough. He did a very good job of doing two-foot jump stops and being patient around the rim. When Antione’s shot is falling… it’s scary. His confidence is quickly shown when his first couple of shots goes in. He hit shoots of the dribble in transition, off of ball screens, and maneuvering through the defense in the midrange. Once again West impressed me.
Lima Senior has a long list of very good point guards under Coach Q. Last four years they had Khalil Luster and this list goes back to Zavier Simpson and I think Amari Addy Amari Addy 5’11” | PG Lima Sr | 2026 State OH is next on that list. He doesn’t do too much for the Spartans but he also doesn’t seem uncomfortable at all as a freshman playing against some very good defensive pressure. He is very fast with the ball. He had a tough finish over 2 defenders with an incredible spin on the ball that showed me his offensive skill is there. I’ve only watched Addy play twice and I think his ceiling is very high.
Without Chico Johnson Chico Johnson 6’2″ | SG Toledo Central Catholic | 2023 State OH , I thought Leach would be the go-to guy for the Irish and they would go as he went. The Irish are playing such good basketball right now that they don’t need to rely on him as much but I watched Leach very closely and I saw some things I liked. He is more comfortable and the game seems to move slower for him. He is bigger looking. He again showed some flashes of being a special player and I would love to see him put it all together. His athleticism and length are great. His skill is there just would like to see him be more consistent.
White had an “off night” on Saturday abasing Findlay. I put off night in quotation marks because an off night for him is still the leading scorer for Ottawa-Glandorf. He was only held to two free throws in the first half but in the fourth quarter he has a tough finish and you could tell it woke him up. Under my breath, I said to myself, “Oh, boy,” because you could see the switch flip for him. Sure enough, he went onto a seven-point run by himself at a point of the game that put it out of reach for Findlay to overcome. White is the true definition of “You can’t stop him, you can only try to contain him,” because he always will get points.
