Continue ReadingMartin Luther King Memorial Day always brings some of the best moments of the season in some of the storied gyms like the old Don Bosco Tech in Paterson. Let’s look at who performed on the day.
Sophomore forward Jalen Fleming Jalen Fleming 6'4" | SF Timothy Christian | 2025 State NJ scored an eye popping 43 points to lead Timothy Christian past struggling Sayreville. Fleming is a bruiser under the basket who can also draw defenders away and shoot well in the mid range–He’s also adept at drawing fouls and getting to the line. He added 10 boards in the blowout win.
In a battle of two of the top public school programs in North Jersey, 6’7″ Towson commit Tyler Tejada Tyler Tejada 6'7" | SF Teaneck | 2023 State NJ and Teaneck outdueled Jalen Robinson Jalen Robinson 5'10" | PG Columbia | 2023 State NJ and Columbia 80-76. Tejada, a versatile forward with an expanding skillset on offense, led the way with 29 points and 11 boards. Tejada has nice moves in the paint and uses his frame to get rebounds and create second chance points. The Tigers have a good one coming down to Baltimore next season. In the loss, Columbia sophomore Jayden Myers continued his fantastic season, scoring 22 in defeat–he’s really emerging as a player to watch for the next two years at the Maplewood school.
Playing without scoring machine Brandon Dean Brandon Dean 5'10" | PG South Plainfield | 2024 NLG , South Plainfield scored a good, gritty win over a game New Prov team as Tareak Williams stepped up on offense and scored 22 points in a 52-46 win over one of the top small schools in Union County. Williams is a senior multi-sport athlete who came into the year with expectations of playing the major support role but showed he can lead a team to victory as the go-to-guy today.
The result of the long weekend came from the Boys from Belmar, as high flying Saint Rose, now playing with its full contingent of eligible transfers, scored the program’s biggest win since the mid 2000s by defeating Patrick School 53-49. While the Hodge brothers did the heavy lifting, scoring half the points, it was newly eligible transfers Evan Romano Evan Romano 6'2" | SG St. Rose | 2025 State NJ (Holmdel) and Gio Panzini Gio Panzini 6'5" | SF St. Rose | 2024 State NJ (RBC) who made big plays late to score the marquee victory. Romano gives the Roses another ballhandler with lethal shooting ability and Panzini is a legit 6’5″ guard who is another D1 prospect. With Peter Mauro Peter Mauro 5'10" | PG St. Rose | 2025 NJ , the top guard in the state for his class, now driving the bus, the Roses are an overwhelming favorite to win the Shore.
