This was my first time watching Johnson live and he sure did not disappoint. He did most of his damage in transition getting steals and rebounds and pushing it to score. He was virtually unstoppable in the open court finishing in a multitude of ways. His shot was inconsistent all game but made a couple from distance down the stretch to push the lead for Wooford County. I would like to have seen him play a little harder, but his combination of length and size makes for him to be one of the top guards in the country in the 2025 class.
Aden Nelson
Aden Nelson
Nelson is a physically imposing senior that plays all over the floor. Was at his best scoring around the basket using his body to create angles at the rim. Nelson also did a good job driving driving the ball, especially when he got to his left hand. Played with an extremely high motor. Big time athlete.
Jenkins played extremely hard which got him easy baskets. Did a really good job cutting without the ball in the half court. Showcased his 3pt shooting ability knocking down a clutch 3pt shot off the catch. Jenkins did a lot of things well but was most impressed by his high motor.
Highlights
Goodin played with extreme poise for only being in the 8th grade. Was probably one of the most composed player on the floor for Collins, always making the right plays and didn’t get sped up. Strong driver that changed speeds to get to the rim. Didn’t score a ton, but was overall just impressed how he helped run the team and settle Collins down.
Kenyon handling the scoring load for Collins but didn’t really get it going till the 4th quarter. He took some tough shots early on which got him out of rhythm but settled in late. Did a good job driving and finishing thru contact. Has good 3pt range both off the catch and dribble. Could tell he has the ability to really fill it up if teams give him space to operate.
Simmons is another player for Collins that got it going late in the game. Struggled to make shots early but did a good job getting to the paint. Does a good job breaking guys down off the dribble to get to his spots. Will take and make tough shots. Even though his shots weren’t falling, he continued to compete on both ends of the floor.
Gatlin Griffith
Gatlin Griffith
Griffith can flat out score it. The game seems to come natural to him in every facet. Had the ball in his hands a lot, but did a good job of both running the team and looking for his shot. Did a great job getting teammates involved as defenders collapsed on him. Knocked down shots from 3pt range both off the catch and dribble. Griffith is a guy that should definitely get more attention than he already does as he is one of the best junior guards in the state.
