Rodriguez came to show the Florida guys how they do it in NYC! He was the main threat on a deep Iona Prep squad who came to Gainesville all the way from Brooklyn. Rodriguez is a broad shouldered wing who could get his shot off quickly. He was lights out from 3 in Iona’s overtime W over a talented Oldsmar Christian team. His strength and IQ made him a presence when going downhill. Rodriquez is an offense-minded wing who provided much needed scoring in big moments for Iona Prep. He’ll have a great season playing in NYC this year.
On an Iona Prep team that played some of Florida’s best teams to the wire, New was the clear leader. New excelled in serving as a pure IQ point guard who was able to make some insane passes and direct the offense effectively. His vision was top tier as he was able to throw passes from ¾ court that found themselves landing perfectly in the hands of Iona’s other players. New brought an element of scrappy defense to the table, as he slowed down opposing guards with his tenacious defense. On offense, he was able to knock down some big threes and get a bucket from time to time. However, his most prominent feature was as a leader. New directed his teammates on the offensive end and supported his teammates through mistakes and blunders. He’s a perfect glue guy who is really the heart of this Iona Prep team.
Pray provided a much needed interior presence for Iona Prep. At 6-7, Pray was really effective around the rim. He wasn’t able to create for himself very much, but also wasn’t tasked with doing so much as a result of Iona’s high IQ guards. So, he did exactly what he needed to do and did it well. Pray provided some big time buckets down the stretch and is a vital piece inside for an Iona Prep team who thrived on the exterior.
