Cole Certa Breaks Down Recruitment
Bloomington Central Catholic 2024 shooting guard Cole Certa Cole Certa 6'4" | SG IMG Academy | 2024 State #129 Nation FL currently checks in as the #5 overall prospect in the junior class and highest ranked uncommitted prospect. That is due to his size for position, elite sharp shooting ability, and how his overall game continues to flourish. He is more than just a shooter showing he can get buckets off the bounce, in transition, and has vastly improved as a passer. We caught up with Certa to get the latest on his season and recruitment. He told us how the season is going so far.
“It is going good. We have a really fun group that plays really hard. It has been a fun year. I think I have had a good season. Most importantly I think we are winning as a team.”
What is the latest with recruiting?
“I just got offered from Rice and Penn State recently. Talking to Iowa, Illinois, Oklahoma, Wake Forest, and Butler the most consistently.”
Penn State came in over the last month to extend an offer to the wing.
“I really like how they play. I know they value shooting. I feel like that is something I can do. I am really happy they are doing well this year.”
Rice as well offered the sharp shooting junior.
“Really good academic school. Another school thar really values the three and I feel I could really help that.”
What schools has he been out to for visits recently?
“Over the fall I took them to Loyola, Northwestern, and Illinois.”
Illinois is starting to make a strong play for the central Illinois standout as Brad Underwood and Geoff Alexander were at his game this past Friday.
“I think them being there was really cool. Seeing Coach Underwood was cool. I think I am going to go back up for a game real soon. They want me to come back to campus. I am excited to keep talking to them.”
Northwestern has made a strong impression early in the process as he got to see them play this year.
“I love it there. I went up to a game recently to see them play against DePaul. I love how Coach Collins coaches and how he allows them to play free which is unusual. I could see myself in that system.”
Loyola also got a visit from Certa recently.
“I loved Loyola. Me and my family had a great time. I loved Coach Valentine. It was pretty fun.”
Former Ramblers head coach Porter Moser has his attention at Oklahoma as well.
“With him he has had a lot of success with guards like me that are good shooters and guys that play the right way. That is something that stands out when watching them.”
Iowa is reeling in central Illinois talent and is monitoring Certa closely as well.
“They are having a good season. We text back and forth pretty consistently like every other week. It has been cool getting to know them.”
What is the next step in the process for him?
“Finding the right fit. I will probably look to make my decision around June or July. Finding the right fit and a place that feels like home.”
He knows a couple schools that he wants to get out to for visits.
“Definitely Penn State and Oklahoma.”
