Whether it be from attending our Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase, speaking with high school coaches around the state, or from being out at games all season long we are proud of the comprehensiveness of this initial list. However, we know it can be difficult to identify all of the top freshmen in the state so please feel free to drop recommendations of players to add either via DM (always open) on Twitter @BRamseyKSR or email coachbrandonramsey@gmail.com. Please include as much information as possible when doing so such as film, statistics, height, position, AAU team, etc.
Now, let’s take a look at some of the most noteworthy prospects from our initial Watch List. There are plenty of prospects here having GREAT high school seasons at the varsity level.
It is impressive anytime a freshman can come in and contribute right away at the varsity level. It becomes even more impressive when that freshman is contributing at the varsity level for an 11-1 Class 4A program. Elmore, a 6’3″ forward for the Jennings County Panthers, has been a primary rotation piece from day one and is playing a key role in their success this season. He is averaging 6.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.
The sky is the limit for what the Greencastle forward can become. Evans is one of three freshmen that are starting for the Tiger Cubs and is putting up some of the best numbers of any freshman in the state of Indiana this season. The 6’6″ skilled forward averages 11.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. After being one of the top performers at our Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase in the fall, Evans has continued his strong play through the first half of the high school season.

This talented prospect could certainly make a case for being included in our initial Top 25. He certainly would be ranked if we expanded any further than that. Hammel immediately stepped into a starting role in New Haven’s backcourt and is holding his own against Fort Wayne’s best at the varsity level. The 6’1″ dynamic playmaker is averaging 7.6 points per game for the 6-6 Bulldogs.

Huerta has come out of the gate as the leading scorer for South Central (Union Mills). The 5’11” guard is averaging 10.6 points per game while knocking down 37% of his attempts from beyond the arc. He has good length for his position, is a very good rebounder from the perimeter, and showcases the ability to play both on and off the ball in the backcourt. Definitely a name to remember coming out of northern Indiana.
This sharp-shooting lefty burst onto the scene early this season at the Sneakers For Santa Shootout scoring 19 points on five three-pointers in Bloomfield’s matchup with North Central. Playing a major role for the Class 1A #1 team in the state obviously shows his talent as a freshman. Neill, the son of the Cardinals head coach, is certainly making a name for himself to start his career for a state championship contender.
There is nothing about Oliver that makes him look like he is a freshman. At 6’3″ and 200 pounds he is one of the more physically gifted prospects in the class. Fresh off of a great season on the gridiron for Linton-Stockton he stepped on the hardwood and was a starter right away for the Miners who are one of the favorites to win the Class 2A state championship. Oliver is a slasher/driver type of player on the wing and an excellent rebounder. A two-sport athlete to follow over the coming years at Linton-Stockton.
