The annual event at Floyd County to raise money for cancer research always is a mix of some of the top teams in the western part of the state, as well as some of the top teams nationally in the region. There were a lot of standouts, so we will break them up and we take a look at part one here.
Jackson Crawford Jackson Crawford 5'11" | PG Lord Botetourt | 2023 State VA | 5’10” PG | Lord Botetourt 2023
The Emory and Henry commit was fantastic for Botetourt who went down in a very close and exciting game to a very good Radford team, and he showed his ability to both score it and make plays for others off the bounce. He’s a super crafty guard who can create space and touch the paint off the bounce with his tight handle and shiftiness, he made tough shots from multiple levels and he made very good decisions with the ball in his hands.
Evan Bannwart | 6’4” WG | Lord Botetourt 2024
Bannwart is one to keep an eye on in the Roanoke area over the next few years, as he checks a lot of boxes moving forward with his size and scoring ability. He can catch and shoot from deep and has good form and range, he plays with a good motor and is a good rebounder for his position and he can finish around the rim off cuts and when he gets downhill.
Sam Duncan | 6’3” WG | Auburn 2023
The defending Class 1 state champions return quite a few players, and Duncan is one of their top glue guys who provides them with size on the perimeter and is a two way impact player. He has great instincts and knows how to move off the ball, he knocks down shots consistently and he’s a good defender as well. He finished with 13 points and made 3 from beyond the arc in their win over Christiansburg.
Nick Millirons | 6’2” PG | Auburn 2024
Auburn is a team that has terrific chemistry and has played together for a long time, and Millirons is the main reason as he runs the show and makes everyone on his team better. He has good size at the point guard position to see over defenders and delivers good passes, he can create for himself and others off the bounce and he picks his spots and scores it efficiently. He finished with 9 points and a handful of assists in their win.
Coahan Gordon | 6’5” C | Auburn 2024
Gordon was a force in the paint for Auburn, as the 6’5” big man was a walking mismatch with his ability to play inside-out and was very productive and efficient. He moves well off the ball to get open and has good hands and touch in the paint, he rebounds well on both ends of the floor and he showed his ability to step out and stretch the floor as well. He finished with a team high 18 points and likely had a double-double in their win.
Kaleb Robinson | 6’4” PF | Christiansburg 2025
Despite the loss, Christiansburg has a young and promising team moving forward, and Robinson is a big reason why as he looked like one of the top young prospects in the area. At 6’4” he has a strong frame and is a good athlete, he can use his strength to overpower defenders and finish around the rim in traffic and he is a factor on the glass and on the defensive end. He finished with a game high 23 points and was close to a double-double.
