3 Players
Highlights
As it stands right now, Jacob Cherry Jacob Cherry 6'9" | C Eastern-Pekin | 2023 State IN is the best uncommitted center in the in-state 2023 class. He is one of the most mobile bigs in the state and such a smooth touch around the basket. High IQ at his position and defends the paint so well. Has current offers from Missouri Baptist University, Cornerstone University, Iowa Wesleyan University, Indiana University East, University of Saint Francis, and others. Whoever lands Cherry is getting a big that produce right away. He and Eastern Perkin take on Henryville on 2/2.
As far as players that play on ball a lot, Mason Lewis Mason Lewis 5'9" | PG Crispus Attucks | 2024 State IN is one of the quickest guards in the state at this point. Lewis is an extremely explosive player that makes play after play. Although his is quick, he has a calm demeaner about his game and is someone that hardly makes costly mistakes. He is a big reason why North Central has won 9 games this year. North Central has a road game at Lawrence Central (2/2) and a home game vs Guerin Catholic (2/4) this week.
Our first player from the 2026 class makes the 3 For 3 this year and it is only fitting that we start off with the best player in the in-state class, Steven Reynolds III Steven Reynolds III 6'5" | SG South Bend Washington | 2026 State IN . For his age, he is already a taller guard at 6’4 and has the ability to makes shots at all three levels very well. He is extremely athletic and already makes the highlight plays you like to see. He has come in and become an instant contributor on a 14-3 south Bend Washington team. Watch him play South Bend Riley on 2/2.
3 Teams
Bloomington South (4A): Another season, another dominant season for the Bloomington South Panthers. They are currently riding a 5-game winning streak and have improved to 13-5 at this point in the year. The Panthers may not have the superstar players like they have had in the past, but they an experienced team led by Gavin Wisley Gavin Wisley 6'8" | PF Bloomington South | 2023 State IN , Aiden Schmitz Aiden Schmitz 5'11" | SG Bloomington South | 2023 State IN , Zach Sims Zach Sims 6'3" | SF Bloomington South | 2024 State IN , and others. They will most likely increase their winning streak to 6 with their road game at Mitchell on Thursday. That game will be special as legendary Bloomington South coach J.R. Holmes will be honored as he was the Michell head coach before he took over for the Panthers way back in the day.
Bishop Chatard (3A): The Bishop Chatard Trojans enter into this week 11-5 on the season and off a win over Muncie Burris. However, they are 1-3 over their last 4 games. Bishop Chatard, in my opinion, has been one of the more fun teams to watch this season. Guys like Robert Davidson Robert Davidson 6'4" | SF Bishop Chatard | 2023 State IN , Drew Knapp Drew Knapp 6'4" | SF Bishop Chatard | 2023 IN , Sam Lewis Sam Lewis 5'7" | PG Bishop Chatard | 2023 IN , Ethan Roseman Ethan Roseman 6'0" | PG Bishop Chatard | 2026 State IN , and others have major contributors this season which is why Bishop Chatard looks to be one of the favorites in the tough Sectional 27. The Trojans have a important week ahead with a home meeting vs University (1/31) and a road game at Indianapolis Roncalli (2/2).
Manchester (2A): While they may have lost their last two games, the Manchester Squires have been one of the hottest teams in 2A this year, especially in the northern Indiana area. They stand at 12-4 on the year with wins over Wabash and Rochester on their resume. While they don’t have the toughest schedule, they are taking care of the games they should. It also helps that they have one of the better players in the 2025 class, Gavin Betten Gavin Betten 6'7" | PF Manchester | 2025 State IN , putting up big numbers as well. The Squires host Northfield on 2/2.
3 Matchups
Loogootee (1A) at Orleans (1A) – Feb 2nd, 7:30 pm: Let’s face facts here, there is not a bigger game at the 1A level this week than the top-6 showdown between Loogootee and Orleans. The Orleans Bulldogs currently sit as the top team at the 1A level but will have a tough challenge of containing elite scorer Peyton Bledsoe Peyton Bledsoe 6'4" | SF Loogootee | 2023 State IN this week. You add then that this a true southern Indiana rivalry, the hype for this game only increases. For me, I think the home court advantage and the balance of Orleans is what makes me think that the Bulldogs get W here.
Lawrence North (4A) at New Palestine (4A) – Jan. 30th, 7:30 pm: After getting postponed due to snow, we will finally get this game tonight. New Palestine remain one of the few undefeated teams in the state and have beaten teams such as Southport, Greenfield-Central, Gary 21st, and others. However, they arguably play their toughest team yet as Lawrence North comes into town. The Wildcats arguably have the best backcourt in the state and Kobi Bowels and Azavier Robinson Azavier Robinson 6'1" | PG Lawrence North | 2025 State #88 Nation IN so the Dragons will have a tough challenge on their end. New Pal has some studs as well and their anchor, Ian Stephens Ian Stephens 6'5" | PF New Palestine | 2023 State IN , has been a tough post player to stop. I think New Pal gets their first loss of the season as the backcourt of Bowels and Robinson will be too much for them.
Jasper (4A) at Heritage Hills (3A) – Feb 4th, 7:30: Another southern Indiana game that intrigues me on paper this week is Jasper’s road game at Heritage Hills. Both of these teams are sneaky tough teams in both the 4A/3A level and I think for the most part matchup fairly well. Of course, all eyes will be on 2025 stud forward Trent Sisley Trent Sisley 6'8" | PF Heritage Hills | 2025 State #47 Nation IN someone for Jasper like 2023 SG Carter Mundy Carter Mundy 6'2" | SG Jasper | 2023 IN will need to have a big game in order to match the production. Heritage Hills is desperate for a big win and I think they get it done here.
