Slightly Too Early 4A Preview (D11) – Prep Hoops

Bigger Roles.

Both Jadon Huston Jadon Huston 6'1" | SG John Overton | 2023 State TN (5.9 ppg) and William Carter (5.0 ppg) started last season, but their roles are much different now. Carter flew all over the floor against KIPP Academy, rebounding offensively and defensively, scoring in the lane and shooting a couple outside. His energy will keep John Overton in games during scoring droughts by elevating moods and inspiring continuous effort.

Analysis: Picking Hillsboro over Brentwood was very difficult. The Bruins are so tough defensively. Take for example their convincing 45-30 win late December over a strong Antioch basketball team. Hillsboro is unbeaten, certainly not unbeatable, but unbeaten all the same with days before Christmas.

Player of the Year

2023 Trey Johnson Trey Johnson 6'1" | SG Hillsboro | 2023 State TN , Hillsboro: Daniel Cochran Daniel Cochran 6'7" | SF Brentwood | 2024 State TN was our preseason favorite with Cortez Graham Cortez Graham 6'4" | PG Hillsboro | 2025 State TN a close second, but Trey’s senior season knows few peers. Thaddeus “Trey” Johnson is averaging 21.8 points per game on a blistering 63% shooting. Daniel Cochran Daniel Cochran 6'7" | SF Brentwood | 2024 State TN will easily outpace Johnson in the rebounding column, and possibly the assist column too. Cortez committed just a single turnover through his first eight games. He too will be in consideration all season for District MVP and yet Johnson’s efficiency and production is tremendous. He is the PrepHoopsTN favorite to claim D11 MVP.

Biggest Sleeper

Kyree Christian Kyree Christian 5'9" | PG Pope John Paul II | 2024 State TN , John Overton: Exceptionally quick on-ball defensive whiz, Kyree makes John Overton a much better team. This is his first year with the central Nashville outfit. Multiple times facing a less-talented KIPP Academy team, Kyree stayed in front of his man as Bender came flying up to trap and the duo generated a hectic turnover.

“ Davis Long Davis Long 6'0" | PG Franklin | 2024 State TN is probably the most underrated player in the state. 4:1 a/to ratio at one point last year. He has been starting to score the basketball this summer. Used to be managing offense, defending. He has made a jump this summer, averaging 21 ppg, that is quite a jump from 10 ppg as a sophomore. High IQ. High motor. Does it all. He has been in the shadow of Reed Kemp since his freshman year. He really stepped into the role of scoring the basketball, as well.”
