Here are the top performers from the games we watched: Tualatin over Sherwood, Tigard over Grant, and three games from the Court of Dreams event at the Moda Center, Reynolds over Aloha, Pleasant Hill over Umatilla, and Summit over McNary.
Josiah Lake Josiah Lake 6'1" | PG Tualatin | 2023 State OR (2023 Tualatin)
Not that there were any doubts that Lake would step right up and be a main man for Tualatin, but the 6-foot-1 guard has done so in a huge way. Averaging over 23 points per game, he lit up the scoreboard for 25 in the Timberwolves’ easy win over Sherwood on Tuesday night by canning long range threes but also attacking the hoop and using his athleticism to finish at the cup.
Jaden Steppe Jaden Steppe 6'8" | SF Tualatin | 2024 State #289 Nation OR (2024 Tualatin)
Along with Lake, Steppe provides Tualatin with one of the top one-two offensive punches in the entire state. The 6-foot-7 swingman can easily use his strength and skills to dominate in the paint, but has become just as effective attacking from the perimeter and on Tuesday night his outside shot was cooking as well. He hit three from distance on his way to notching 23 points on the night.
Kalim Brown Kalim Brown 6'0" | CG Tigard | 2023 State OR (2023 Tigard)
One of the most natural scorers in 6A, Brown got buckets at all three levels against Grant. The 6-foot senior used his patented pull-up jumper but also drilled some catch-and-shoot threes and also finished at the hoop, especially in transition. When Brown gets on a roll, he can be very difficult to stop. He was also a factor on the boards, pulling down six.
Malik Brown Malik Brown 6'0" | PG Tigard | 2023 State OR (2023 Tigard)
So far this season Brown hasn’t put up big scoring numbers but he’s been happy doing a lot of everything else for Tigard – especially getting teammates involved. Against Grant, he was looking for his fellow Tigers early and often, whether they were open from the perimeter or cutting to the basket. At night’s end he had dished out 10 dimes, but also stuffed the statsheet with 8 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.
Charlie Kapranos (2024 Grant)
Tough night offensively for Grant against Tigard but one guy who has continued to be Mr. Dependable for the Generals is Kapranos. The 6-foot-4 forward was very strong inside, using his body to create space and his soft touch to finish, but also was able to go out on the perimeter for a couple of perimeter shots. A guy that isn’t afraid to mix it up, the junior fought hard on the boards and didn’t back down defensively. 16 points on the night.
Gavin Inglish Gavin Inglish 6'3" | SG Pleasant Hill | 2025 State OR (2025 Pleasant Hill)
Inglish was the player of the day in the three games we watched at the Moda Center. He pretty much showed off the complete package in a 27-point, 11-rebound, 6-assist, 4-steal performance in an easy win over Umatilla. The 6-foot-2 guard attacked the basket at will, finishing strong around the rim, and was extremely aggressive on defense creating turnovers in Pleasant Hill’s press.
Pearson Carmichael Pearson Carmichael 6'6" | SF Summit | 2024 State #270 Nation OR (2024 Summit)
Carmichael started off the season like a house on fire with his scoring, so his 13 points on Saturday don’t necessarily stand out. However understated that might be, it was still dominant as he was able to accomplish what he did in fewer than three quarters played. The 6-foot-7 swingman was tough off the bounch, strong finshing around the basket, and did a nice job moving the basketball and hitting the glass. 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Miguel Taylor Miguel Taylor 6'6" | CG Summit | 2024 State ID (2024 Summit)
His length and athleticism are typically to his advantage against defenders in most games, and that certainly was the case with Taylor on Saturday. But in addition to getting buckets inside and especially in transition, the 6-foot-7 swingman also did a nice job on the boards and was also sharp with his passing, finding guys cutting to the basket for easy scores. 14 points, 5 rebounds, and a couple of assists.
