The Sophomore Dragon has grown and added some bulk since the last time I’ve seen him and was fantastic for Green County in their win over Bardstown. He ended the game with 23 points and 11 rebounds while playing all 32 minutes. Hayden scored the ball both in the post and in the midrange but did go 0-2 from three. At 6’5, Hayden needs to continue improving his perimeter shooting and ball handling but he’s definitely a future scholarship level player.
Stone had a good day on Saturday despite his team struggling and ultimately losing. The 6’0 guard showed he can score the ball at every level and was one of only a couple of Tigers who played really well. Donovan shot well and efficiently on offense but also showed he can pressure the ball and make life hard for opposing point guards. He’s a player to keep an eye on in the 5th region.
Doerr was named game MVP after pouring in 20 points and showed he can fill up the stat sheet as he was scoring the ball all over the floor. An argument could be made that Cyr Malonga Cyr Malonga 6’10” | C Evangel Christian | 2023 State KY was just as valuable since he had a double-double and Lincoln had no answer for him. Regardless, Evangel played well on Saturday and Doerr showed his potential playing both on and off the ball as a true two way guard.
Whitney had the best performance I saw on Saturday. Even while battling foul trouble, Chappelle put up 26 points and did it efficiently as he shot almost 60% overall. He was able to get to the rim and finish and also hit two threes and hit 8-9 from the free throw line, including the makes that iced the game. Even down a starter, Warren Central controlled the game against Western and showed why many have them as a favorite to get back to Rupp and maybe win it all in 2023.
Disclaimer first, I left the gym before the last game of the night tipped off. Having said that, you can’t ignore a 41 point performance and a win where Jasper brought his team back from 20+ down in the 4th quarter. Jasper had 41 points while shooting 13-25 overall, 6-11 from three and 9-13 from the line. Recently moved up to our top spot in the 2025 rankings, Johnson showed that the ranking has been earned.
