Coulter Looks Like Top Freshman Leading Rich to Win

I constantly get asked “who is the best freshman in the state” even though they have barely started their first seasons. We wont release those rankings until next summer, but Rich Township combo guard Jamson Coulter made a very compelling case for the honor to begin the day. Lefty guard has a strong frame and he knows how to use it. Changes gears and angles well doing most of his damage scoring at the rim as he had 27 points. Also liked what we saw from a pair of juniors. Bouncy four man Victor Brown had 20 points using his quickness around the hoop playing with a high-motor. Smaller guard [player_tooltip player_id='1295645' first='Samar' last='Bures'] was a microwave scorer for this team netting 20 points scoring from all over the floor in their 88-69 W against Lindblom.

Speaking of Lindblom their point guard [player_tooltip player_id='1285491' first='Quentin' last='Mccoy'] had a nice outing. Plus shooter hit some shots and showed a nice passing feel while scoring 18 points. Fellow junior Je'Shawn Stevenson is a physical 6'3” guard that started off slow, but came on strong as the game went on. He got to the rim and had numerous and-1s in a 25 point outing.

Proviso East Senior Duo Shines in Victory

Three of the better unsigned seniors were in this one. Proviso East's duo was just too much as they beat De La Salle 74-61. Small forward [player_tooltip player_id='939056' first='Bryce' last='Coleman'] went for 16 points. He was active on both ends of the floor, scored in the paint, and hit a few jumpers. Shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id='1048386' first='Jaloni' last='Johnson'] used his feathery jumper from mid-range and three for 13 points. Both should get serious D2 consideration. [player_tooltip player_id='1279770' first='Emory' last='Marshall'] also provided a spark for the Pirates on crafty drives and scores in the open floor for 12 points.

As for De La Salle's star unsigned senior [player_tooltip player_id='1113514' first='Evan' last='Jackson'] he started on the bench, but did show some tools including a mid-range jumper, quickness on the glass, and finishing out of the dunker spot for 9 points. Their top junior [player_tooltip player_id='1285485' first='Richard' last='Lindsey'] is a Simeon transfer with a bright future. Strong bodied wing that knocked in 15 footers and created off the bounce for 13 points.

Marian Catholic Wins Chaotic Game Against Evanston

Two of the better suburban teams this year and programs in general battled in what I referred to as the pinball game. The ball kept flying around bouncing back and forth as neither team could keep control of it. Marian Catholic won the game 57-45. Cal Poly signee [player_tooltip player_id='1371065' first='Quentin' last='Jones'] netted 18 points utilizing his slashing and second jump around the hoop. Donovan Juzang is a lefty utility guard that had 15 points on floaters and creative layups.

Evanston's only real effective player in this game was [player_tooltip player_id='1215286' first='Prince' last='Adams']. One of the better unsigned posts in the state struggled finishing early and missed some threes, but turned it up. He dominated on the glass and scored with mid-range jumpers, reverse layups, and made a few nice passes while notching 24 points and 14 rebounds.

Hillcrest Dominates Normal As 2023 Quartet Show Out

This was the battle of top 10 post prospects in [player_tooltip player_id='939051' first='Darrion' last='Baker'] (Hillcrest – 2023) and [player_tooltip player_id='1157233' first='Jaheem' last='Webber'] (Normal Community – 2024). It was apparent from the jump however that Hillcrest was the better team winning 73-44 over Normal. Early on 2023 point guard [player_tooltip player_id='939078' first='Bryce' last='Tillery'] took over with an array of mid-range jumpers and takes coast to coast finishing with 17 points. Fellow senior [player_tooltip player_id='1279765' first='Quentin' last='Heady'] then got in the action as the angular small forward was an absolute force in transition scoring over and over for 18 points. Their top prospect and Akron commit [player_tooltip player_id='939051' first='Darrion' last='Baker'] had 17 points displaying a versatile inside and outside game and shot blocking on defense. Really like what long and lanky forward [player_tooltip player_id='1537985' first='Tolu' last='Samuels'] brings as a rebounder and defender netting 7 points.

Top 10 junior Normal Community post [player_tooltip player_id='1157233' first='Jaheem' last='Webber'] showed what makes him that in this game, but his team was just overmatched. We liked how he came out aggressive early using his strong body down low scoring on seals and being physical on the glass for multiple put backs. High level rebounder snatching them in traffic and blocked quite a few shots while scoring 14 points.

Brother Rice Wins Close One Against Bloom

Bloom jumped out early against Brother Rice, but the Crusaders rallied and then held on in the fourth quarter despite only scoring 2 points in the final stanza to win 50-46. Niagara commit [player_tooltip player_id='1048307' first='Ahmad' last='Henderson'] led the way with 13 points. Worked well on the baseline hitting several from there and getting to the line on and-1s. Like the upside of junior power forward [player_tooltip player_id='1373444' first='Zavier' last='Fitch']. Bouncy post that swatted shots and used his athleticism around the hoop for 13 points.

Bloom got a big game out of 2023 unsigned guard [player_tooltip player_id='1048314' first='Jordan' last='Brown']. He shot it from three about as well as we have seen him nailing four from distance. Also took good angles getting to the rim for 17 points. Against his former team [player_tooltip player_id='1279766' first='Jayden' last='Watson'] was active scoring 10 points on several rim runs and playing off his activity on the glass.

Perspectives Scores Comeback Win in OT Over North Lawndale

In the final game of the event it was actually one of the more exciting contests of the weekend. North Lawndale looked dominant in the first half leading 34-27 after the first couple quarters. Perspectives turned up the heat in the second half with a dominant press game getting turnovers and points to send it to OT before winning 78-76. They were led in the comeback by a pair of guards. [player_tooltip player_id='1371072' first='Jakeem' last='Cole'] scored 19 of his game high 27 points in the second half and OT. The Leo transfer is fitting in nicely impacting defensively and scoring in bunches. [player_tooltip player_id='1352590' first='Gianni' last='Cobb'] is a talented junior scoring guard that sliced and diced in the lane for 25 points.

On the North Lawndale side they were pretty balanced, but it was their senior guards who stepped up. [player_tooltip player_id='939054' first='Ronald' last='Chambers'] dropped 21 points using his burst and physicality getting in the lane. Jemarje Windfield is a smaller quick guard that has been effective over the last week in both games we saw including this one going for 20 points.
