I scouted Liberty last week when it played host to Iowa City West. I wrote up reports on some Lightning prospects that you can read HERE.
Below is a look at who stood out to me during the Liberty-City contest:
I enjoyed my first look at Mbingazo. I’m intrigued. He’s still somewhat raw but oozes potential. He picked up two quick fouls and sat for a good chunk of the first half. He showed maturity in playing under control and not fouling out when he returned. Mbingazo is long and athletic. He shows a soft touch near the basket and can hit mid-range jumpers. He rebounds well and understands help-side defense. He plays with excellent energy and runs the court well. He paced the Little Hawks with 13 points on this night. I’m looking forward to watching him progress. He has an interesting starter kit.
Wright struggled with his outside shot during this game but he displayed good form and a quick release. He shows off excellent handles and blows by defenders consistently to get to the basket, dishing to the post or kicking it out. He’s a solid on-ball defender.
Thomas Ksobiech
Thomas Ksobiech
Ksobiech is a good athlete who also plays football and soccer. His variety of sports helps his footwork. He owns a picture-perfect, left-handed stroke from the outside, shooting over 50 percent from beyond the three-point arc on this young season. He boasts good size and physicality from the guard spot.
Ramsey isn’t the tallest guard but he is complete one. He stresses defenses with his outside shooting ability and moves very well without the ball to find open looks. He led all scorers with 17 points in this game, courtesy of 4 of 8 shooting from three-point land. He handles the ball well and can stop it defensively.
Jailyn Buchanan
Jailyn Buchanan
Buchanan can score at all three levels. Perhaps his biggest strength is breaking down defenses with dribble penetration. He does a nice job running the Lightning offense, often making sure the ball is starting in the right spot. He’s a tenacious defender.
Webb is a presence in the paint for Liberty on both ends of the floor. He pulled down a team-best eight rebounds in this game and did a nice job defending Mbingazo when given the assignment. He handles it well for a bigger guy and shows good athleticism. He has a nice mid-range game on offense.
