PH Louisiana Rankings Overview for the Class of 2023

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It is not a common event but Prep Hoops Louisiana updated their rankings during December. While there was not a ton of movement by players, there were some new things that happened. In this overview of the December rankings update, we will look at some of the newcomers to the rankings, new signings and commitments, and look at the players who have had upward movement in this release.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Signings &amp; Commitments </strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The early signing period came in November and unlike recent years, there was not much news on signings and commitments when it came to seniors of this class. The state's number one player, <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='970120' first='Chris' last='Lockett']</strong>, signed his National letter of intent (NLI) to play for the Boise State Broncos. The only other signing during this time was from <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1475974' first='Dorian' last='Booker']</strong> of Scotlandville. He signed with the Privateers of UNO. On commitments, <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1130799' first='Brandon' last='Hardy']</strong>, of defending 5A champion Zachary, committed to UL-Lafayette. While this has been a quiet period, three of the top 10 players in the state have made their decision in reference to the next level. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>New Additions</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>There were twelve additions to the rankings during this period. The most notable players were point guard <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1606993' first='Mason' last='Guillory']</strong> from St. Thomas More and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1684635' first='Ja'Corey' last='Thomas']</strong> of Walker. Both players entered as top 40 players in the state. Other additions were sharpshooters <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1687011' first='Lachlan' last='Thompson']</strong> of Choudrant and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1627548' first='A.J.' last='Allen']</strong> of Claiborne Christian. Both players are highly accurate from three. The back court of <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1607253' first='Cedric' last='Stanford']</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1686760' first='Jaylen' last='Welch']</strong> of Bolton rounded out the new additions to the rankings. Check out the full list in the snippet on the Prep Hoops Louisiana web page. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Rise in the rankings</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Along with the two newcomers, there were a handful of players who saw their rankings rise due to their early play. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1132619' first='Anthony' last='Johnson']</strong> is showing Louisiana that he is a top point guard in the state and is firmly in the top 35. [player_tooltip player_id='1130733' first='Tahj' last='Roots'] has had a good start to the season and he saw upward movement as well. Wings <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1454945' first='Draven' last='Smith']</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1130805' first='Fredtravious' last='Benjamin']</strong> are showing that they can score, handle and rebound during their contests. Each player has gotten off to a hot start and both players are playing themselves into All-state recognition. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>There will be another rankings update toward the end of the season.
