Friday night in a packed House, the Catholic League match-up of Brother Rice vs St. Rita was the hottest ticket in the city. Well at least it felt that way. This matchup between two top ten teams in the city had all types of drama as the game went into the fourth quarter tied. St.Rita would eventually pull out the victory in the end. Here were the stars of this huge game.
Nojus Indrusaitis Nojus Indrusaitis 6'5" | SG Brewster Academy | 2024 State #79 Nation New E ’24 (St.Rita)
A breakout game for Nojus who seem to have a rocky start in his first few contest for the Mustangs. Indrusaitis got his points early with a pair of threes and two strong attacks at the rim. He again asserted himself in the 4th quarter with some pull up jumpers and was fouled the rest of the way scoring off free throws. He led Rita with 19 points.
Ahmad Henderson Ahmad Henderson 5'10" | PG Brother Rice | 2023 State #291 Nation IL ’23 (Brother Rice)
Henderson was without a doubt the best player on the court. The Niagara commit was in control from start to finish. He went from hitting some tough pull up three pointers in transition to making some spot on passes to teammates for easier buckets. Ahmad was in his full bag on Friday night as he led all scorers with 28 points and 6 assist in the loss.
Morez Johnson Morez Johnson 6'9" | PF Thornton | 2024 State #33 Nation IL ’24 (St.Rita)
The #2 player in the junior class could be considered number #1 soon as he is showing vast improvements and consistency in his game. As Rita started to get settled Johnson began to make strong plays from all three levels. One of his better plays was a slight in and out hesitation dribble to beat a defender then he took off from outside the free-throw mark. A play that sent the Rita fans into a frenzy. Morez also had some good touches in the post and later on made a nice 15 foot jump shot from the elbow. The U of I commit finished with 16 points and 10 boards.
James Brown James Brown 6'9" | C Link Academy (from Chicago) | 2024 #66 Nation MO ’24 (St.Rita)
Brown spent most of the game in foul trouble but when he did play he finished an alley oop play after a steal and then would go on to make free-throws down the stretch that helped Rita to victory. James has been picking up quick fouls in the games we’ve watched so far this season but he still continues to show what makes him the #1 player in his class. Brown finished with 10 points in limited minutes.
Zavier Fitch Zavier Fitch 6'7" | PF Brother Rice | 2024 State IL ’24 (Brother Rice)
One of the surprises this game was the emergence of 2024 forward Fitch. He didn’t seem to back down from the towering bigs across from him. Zavier got a nice block off the back board and even scored some tough baskets around the rim in this intense game. Fitch is bouncy and plays with a ton of confidence. I hope to see more from him this weekend. He finished the game with 9 points and 8 boards.
