The first thing that caught my eye about the senior guard was a wicked quick release and elevation he got under his jumper. But as the game went on, Hernandez showcased his all-around star potential on both ends of the floor. Starting a bit cold from the field, he began attacking the basket with a blistering first step, knocking down some free-throws in the process. And throughout the second half, the guard not only warmed up to the tune of 23 second half points, but also made some out-of-this-world plays on the defensive end. The combination of elusiveness, lights-out shooting and movement without the basketball was a big reason for his game-high 27 points and four-point Doral win.
Highlights
The Appalachian State commit was a dominant force on the interior all game long vs. Fort Myers, finishing with a game-high 25 points. Around the basket, Hayes is as poised as they come, finishing with a soft touch that is near impossible to block with his strong 6-9 frame. Speaking on that build, the soon-to-be Mountaineer is extremely physically mature, using his over seven-foot wingspan to reject shots and box out the opposition every time a shot goes up.
There’s a reason why Davis is arguably the best player in SWFL this year, and his showing Tuesday proved once again why – shelling out 13 points in FBA’s close loss. The senior combo guard is nearly impossible to stop once he gets by his defender, and once he does get by them simply good luck because his body control near the cup is as fluid as it gets.On the defensive end, Davis possesses quick hands and great footwork to essentially be a brick wall trying to blow past.
A do-it-all player, it seems as if Ortiz is involved in every single loose ball, rebound, or defensive sequence. Credit in large part to his ability to never back down from physicality, the senior guard translates this attitude when attacking the basket where he never shies away from contact. Ortiz notched a majority of his 19 points on Tuesday in the paint but can knock it down from beyond the arc when needed.
