It was a bounce back night for Victory Christian on Friday as they played host to #7 Heritage Hall in a top ten showdown in Class 4A. After losing to Metro Christian on Monday night, the Conquerors would knock off the visiting Chargers 70-50 and the stars came out and shined for Victory. Leading the way for the Conquerors was junior forward Chris Mason Chris Mason 6’6″ | PF Victory Christian | 2024 State OK , who finished with 22 points. Mason was held to 15 points in Monday’s loss to Metro and had just four points after three quarters. Mason is absolutely dominant in the paint but one area of his game that has improved drastically is his ability to step outside and knock down shots from the perimeter. The combination of Mason and senior Michael Doctor Michael Doctor 6’2″ | CG Victory Christian | 2024 State OK , who went for 18 on Friday, make Victory Christian a team to watch yet again in Class 4A.
Broken Arrow continued to flex their muscles early on in the season as they improved to 6-0 following an 81-63 win over Jenks on the road. Leading the way was their star and OSU signee Connor Dow Connor Dow 6’6″ | SF Broken Arrow | 2023 State #252 Nation OK . The senior would finish with 22 points and led a very balanced Tiger attack as they beat up on the Trojans from start to finish. The Tigers not only look like arguably the best team on the east side in 6A, we need to take them seriously as a state championship contender in 6A. Their closest win came earlier this week against Booker T Washington when they won 72-55. Dow has been terrific this season but he also has quite a bit of help around him. The Tigers will head to Orlando in two weeks to play in a national tournament. We’re looking forward to seeing if they get challenged during the three days in Florida.
It was a special night for Mustang star Jacobe Johnson Jacobe Johnson 6’3″ | SG Mustang | 2023 State OK . Prior to the game with Southmoore, Johnson was honored for being selected to play in the Under Armour All American game in Florida in a few weeks. The OU football signee was recognized before the game and then helped the Broncos stun Southmoore in overtime, winning 74-73. Johnson finished with 30 points and the most important buckets came from the charity stripe. At the end of regulation, Johnson was fouled on a 3-point attempt and would make all three free throws to send the game into overtime. In OT, he hit two more free throws to put the Broncos up 74-73 and they would hold on for the overtime win. Johnson finished with 30 points on the night and also came up clutch in multiple moments on a huge night for the senior.
After starting off the year 0-2, Owasso was determined to get a win Friday night at home when they hosted Bixby. The Rams would do just that as it took overtime but they would knock off the Spartans 71-63. Leading the way for the Rams in a complete team performance was their freshman star Jalen Montonati Jalen Montonati 6’7″ | SF Owasso | 2026 State OK . He would finish with a team-high 23 points and made play after play during regulation to help get the Rams the win. Few players came into this season with more pressure than Montonati as he has already picked up D1 offers before his freshman season even began. Montonati and the Rams will look to continue this momentum next week when they play two games against out of state competition before participating in the Mustang Holiday tournament in two weeks.
It was a Friday night showdown in Oklahoma City as Douglass would take down Millwood 52-44, improving to 6-1 on the young season. Leading the way was sophomore guard Landry Ballard Landry Ballard 6’1″ | CG Douglass | 2025 State OK . The sophomore really excelled when the game turned into a track meet and both teams were going back and forth at a fast pace. That style of play really fits what Ballard brings to the table, especially on the offensive side of the ball. And it also helped that he had his shot going on the offensive end as he would come up with some big baskets in big moments. Ballard is also very aware that he has some outstanding playmakers around him and he did a good job of getting them the ball throughout the night as the Trojans would make quite the statement by going on the road and beating 3A champion Millwood.
