There is tons of talent for the next level in the league, and with conference play getting started we decided to take a look at some of the top available prospects in the league. Here, we take a look at some of the top guards available.
De’Shayne Montgomery | 6’5” WF | Hargrave ’23
Montgomery is possibly the most intriguing long term prospect for this Hargrave team, as he has all the physical and athletic tools with a budding skill set that should continue to improve moving forward. He’s a big time athlete who plays above the rim in transition and brings energy to his team, he jumps passing lanes and brings a good motor defensively and the lefty can put it on the deck and get to the rim in the half court. As he continues to become a more consistent shooter he could be a very good player for someone in the next few years.
Sam Bradford | 6’6” WF | Hargrave ’23
Bradford is another available player who has had some big games for the Tigers, as he has shown the ability to play within a system off the basketball and work to get open and make shots efficiently from multiple levels. He has a great frame and prototypical size for the next level, he can knock down shots from deep and in the midrange consistently and he has the strength to finish through traffic when he gets downhill. He’s one of Hargrave’s x-factors and will be key to their success moving forward.
Troy McKoy Troy McKoy 6'4" | SG Cushing Academy (MA) | 2024 #200 Nation New E | 6’4” WG | Massanutten ’24
McKoy was one of the reasons Massanutten went to the National semifinals last year, but was a third option for them, and this year he’s one of their top two options along with Mississippi State commit Adrian Myers Adrian Myers 6'5" | SF Massanutten | 2023 State VA . So far this season, McKoy has put up double-double numbers consistently and has scored over 30 points multiple times, including a 45 point and 15 rebound performance earlier this year. He’s a physical wing who can get in the paint and finish through contact and is an excellent rebounder on both ends of the floor, he’s an absolute driller from deep off the catch and he can create shots at multiple levels off the bounce as well.
Aaron Davis | 6’5” WF | First Love ’23
Davis has wasted no time showing he’s one of the top scorers in the EPL, and I believe he’s just scratching the surface and could be a steal at the next level as he continues to develop and become more consistent. At 6’5”, he has great size on the wing with long arms and is an above average athlete, he has good lift on his jumper and can get hot quickly from behind the arc and fill it up in bunches and he can rebound and has a lot of potential defensively. He’s put up big numbers against some very good teams so far this year and is one coaches should look at as he checks a lot of boxes.
Jake DiMichele | 6’4” WF | First Love ’23
DiMichele may not look like he’s going to cook you at first glance, but he showed at the National Prep Showcase he can score it with the best of them and does so in a number of ways. He has great instincts and a natural knack for being around the ball and scoring it from all three levels, he’s an efficient shooter from deep and he’s an excellent and crafty finisher around the rim when he gets downhill. He’s an efficient bucket getter who may not check every box but he’ll go for 20 against the guy who does.
Carmelo Pacheco | 6’4” WG | Fork Union ’23
Pacheco has been FUMA’s most consistent player so far this year, and he’s shown that he’s one of the top shooters in the EPL as he’s shooting well above 40% and has had multiple games of 4 or more three’s this year. He’s a leader who other players follow on both ends of the floor, he has effortless range and can hit from deep both off the catch and off the bounce and he’s shown the ability to come off of curls and cuts and hit from the midrange area too. He’s starting to fill out and round out his game and the way he shoots it at 6’4” he should have division one schools contacting him more and more throughout the season.
Shaedon Simpson | 6’5” WF | Combine ’23
Simpson is one of the most intriguing long term prospects in the EPL, as he has great physical and athletic tools and is finally healthy after a long term injury over the last few years. At 6’5” he’s a lanky wing who can put it on the deck and get to the rim where he’s an explosive finisher, he can make shots both on the spot up and on the move and he has tons of potential on the defensive end as he continues to fill out. He has a lot of room to continue to improve and become more consistent and he’s already one of the top players on the floor every time he steps on it.
Georges Archer | 6’4” WF | Combine ’23
Archer has really come into his own in the past few weeks, even earning EPL Player of the Week in week 4 after a couple of breakout games and has asserted himself as a go-to guy for The Goats. At 6’4” he’s a big time athlete who can get out in transition and play above the rim, he has steadily improved and become a dangerous threat from deep off the catch and defensively he flies around and has the strength and athleticism to guard multiple positions. He’s figuring out his role and is starting to produce across the board for them.
Dominick Stewart | 6’4” WG | Mt. Zion ‘24
Stewart joined this Mt. Zion squad before the season started and he has come off as one of the top shooters and scorers in the EPL so far. The 6’4” two guard is a consistent shooter from deep with good form and deep range, he has shown the ability to create his own shot for himself and others from multiple levels and he has a knack for scoring in bunches and knocking down big shots. He is starting to break out and should see a ton of division one schools start to recruit him here moving forward.
