Bishop Ready put on a clinic in their victory and you could’ve picked one of three players for this, but we wanted to spotlight Russell. An Air Force Baseball commit, Russell wasn’t afraid to get after it on either end against an athletic Detroit U Prep squad. Almost catching multiple bodies, Russell is a threat around the rim to put a defender on a poster. I was also impressed with how Russell shot the ball from the corner, catching and shooting with a lot of confidence. Bishop Ready has a nice three headed monster of senior leaders and they play pretty basketball and take care of the ball, a good recipe for success in the playoffs.
Lawson had one of his more complete games I’ve seen from him, knocking down a variety of jumpers en route to a big scoring night. I was impressed with how Lawson shot the ball off the dribble especially, freezing the defense and also creating contact first with the defender before using the behind the back dribble to create space for the jumper. I also thought Lawson showed impressive touch around the basket with a few floaters. The biggest area of improvement for Lawson is his left hand, he didn’t want to attack off the bounce with that hand or finish around the rim with the left. If Lawson wants to be productive on the EYBL circuit, he needs to improve this area of weakness. Regardless, this is one of the top point guard prospects in Ohio’s 2025 class and will be pursued by Division I schools.
Another day, another dominant Chase Walker Chase Walker 6’8″ | C St. Charles | 2023 State OH performance. Walker is a load to handle in the paint and after an up and down first half, really got things going in the second half. Walker has excellent feet in the paint and uses the spin move to his advantage. Always wanting to go over his right shoulder, Walker is reliant with finishing with his left hand around the basket. One aspect of Walker’s game that needs to be mentioned is his vision and passing ability. Whether it’s after receiving a double team in the post or catching it at midcourt when breaking the press, Walker usually makes the right read and finds an open teammate, a skill that will help him get on the floor early at the college level.
Barber played maybe the best high school game I’ve seen from him, calming down a Richmond Heights squad that looked a little shellshocked early against a Hilliard Bradley squad that was hungry and packed the paint. Barber is one of the quickest and toughest point guards in the state and makes excellent decisions with the ball in his hands. I was impressed with how Barber got his teammates involved while also looking to score for himself, he knocked down a few 3-pointers and had a nasty and-1 finish as well. One of the better guard defenders in 2025, Barber was getting after opposing ball handlers constantly. If you want to know the difference between talented Richmond Heights teams in the past that didn’t get it done compared to the state title winning team last year and this season, it’s Barber.
Hummel has one of the more unique games that I’ve scouted this season. A guard who really looks to get to the basket, Hummel is a good athlete who is tough to stop when slashing to the rim. Hummel can finish around the rim, kick to a teammate or get fouled in the paint. Having a very productive senior season, Hummel continues to show that he just gets it done on both ends. Not looking to shoot often from the outside and not a point guard, it’ll be interesting to see how Hummel translates to the college level, but he’s one of the most productive and important high school players in central Ohio this season.
