There is no doubt about who is the floor general on the Homewood squad, as Carson proved through his play. He is a relentless competitor that brings a lot to the game at the lead guard spot. He is at his best when the ball is in his hands, and he has the freedom to create. He is a playmaker who knows how to get his teammates involved, and he keeps his team in an offensive rhythm. He is a reliable and trustworthy ball-handler that has above-average passing vision, and he is an excellent distributor of the rock. His value is in his pass-first style of play and his ability to run the show. He will be key to all of Homewood’s goals becoming a reality this year.
Ethan Roberts (5’11/SG/’24/Scottsboro HS)

Ethan is a small guard that isn’t afraid to attack the paint and challenge shot blockers. He can score the rock and, on any given night, can be a viable scoring option for Scottsboro. It is easy for Ethan to fly under the radar as he is surrounded by some prolific scorers, and he is able to step up in certain situations and knock down some timely buckets. He is a multi-level scorer that has good scoring instincts. He was very efficient from the field in the game against Bay (FL) and was 4-4 from the line. He consistently played hard but still needs to show more effort on the defensive end of the floor, but make no mistake about it; he is a player that quietly impacts the game for his squad. He finished the contest against Bay with 14pts, with 6pts coming from range.
Jacob Levi Haynes (5’9/PG/’25/Good Hope HS)

Jacob is a young player that unfortunately for him and his crew, was up against Spain park, one of the hottest out of the gate early in this young season. It isn’t fair to gauge Jacob’s play from this game, as they were completely overmatched, but this game is the initial look I have on him. He did try to create off the bounce and be a playmaker trying to get his teammates involved and energy infused into them at the same time. I may not be able to put my eyes on Good Hope again sitting at one of their games, but it is on my agenda to catch them online when they begin area play. I want to see Jacob’s ability and the translatable skills that he showed glimpses of in a different and more competitive setting. There is something about Jacob’s game that I want to see more of, especially with him only being a sophomore.
Julian Gerald Boose (6’5/PF|C/’23/James Clemens HS)

Twitter: @JulianBoose
Julian was a force to be reckoned with in the paint in the match-up against Homewood. Julian shined the most on the defensive end as he showed his ability to guard across the entire frontcourt lineup. He brought a lot of energy and effort to the floor, was a monster on the boards, and was definitely a double-digit rebounder. He doesn’t depend on scoring to be seen, and you can see that he has fully embraced his role on a team that had a run to the Final Four last season. His aggressiveness in the paint makes him a player that teams will have to account for in their game plan. He is a blue-collar player that impacts the game with his activity on both ends. He is a senior presence that makes plays that contribute to winning and will be a key piece to James Clemens’ hopes of returning to Birmingham.
Markell O’Neil (6’1/SF/’24/West Blocton HS)

Twitter: markell_oneil13
Markell is coming off an ankle injury, so he was limited in his time on the court. However, he has a good physical build and showed his ability to score the rock in a lopsided loss. He is a slasher, and when he gets going downhill, he is tough to deal with, and his game draws fouls which leads to trips to the charity strike. He is active in the open court and flashed his athleticism even though it did not seem as though he was 100%. He is definitely a player that we will circle back around to and look at his game when he is closer to 100% or at full strength.
