Broom is a prototypical combo guard who has the size and scoring skill of a two-guard and the handles and poise of a point. The South Alabama commit is one of the best scorers with a bag that leaves his opponents with a crispy 30-piece. Broom shows fluidity off the bounce and a knack for creating space while playing at his own pace. With a crafty handle and timely counters, Broom can get off his shot anytime he wants. He’s also athletic enough to play above the rim, absorb contact, and be an efficient finisher when defenses try to crowd him. As one of the more college-ready prospects, look for Broom to be a nominee for Mr. Basketball within his region.
Odam is arguably the best passer the state has to offer. He sees the game two steps ahead and has an extremely high basketball IQ. His ability to quickly read, find angles, and deliver accurate passes on top of his natural flare makes him one of the more entertaining players to watch. As a scorer, Odam is a sniper who can hit jumpers off the dribble with range. This forces the defense to press and set up his drives off the dribble. Odam has shown the ability to create his shot inside the arc with creativity and a crafty handle. Odam also possesses solid skills when operating the pick and roll. These offensive skills make Odam a lock to have a standout season.
Highlights
Miller has been a dominant force in the state for years and is a consensus top-10 player regardless of class. With limitless range on his jumper and an array of moves to get his shot off any time he wants, Miller is heading into this year as a known assassin who can beat you as a scorer or playmaker. With a crafty handle changes of speed and counter moves, Miller consistently creates space and beats defenders to the spot. This in addition to defenders having to account for the stepback, makes him a handful for any defender at this level. In addition to his scoring prowess, Miller is a willing passer with a natural feel for the game and getting his teammates involved. He can deliver accurate passes on time from any position on the court and generate easy looks consistently- making him a dual-threat guard who can lead a team to a deep playoff run.
McCarty is another underclassman putting his bid in as one of the top players regardless of class. The 2024 prospect has all the tools to be an impact player at the next level and is poised for a dominant 2023 campaign. With next-level size, Mccarty has a jumper that can carry an offense. With a high release point, quick trigger, and elevation McCarty can operate off the ball as an elite sniper. He’s effective off the catch and can shoot well off movement- making him one of the better shooters in the state. Though he’s a shooter, McCarty Has enough handles to be a secondary playmaker and enough athleticism to attack closeouts and get to the paint. This length, in addition to his handles, gives him the potential to develop into a lethal scorer. Though he’s highly touted, McCarty still shows effort in his rebounding effort and has a quick second jump when working the offensive glass. He also shows flashes of positional fluidity when guarding multiple positions. Look for McCarty to continue his development and possibly grow into a blue chipper.
Brown is a traditional big with all the tangible tools and looks the part. With broad shoulders, a sturdy frame, good hand size, and the potential to get even bigger- Brown is a prospect we feel has tremendous upside. He shows excellent hands and doesn’t fumble passes or rebounds. He does a great job of doing the work before getting the ball with his positioning. Uses his strength well when finishing inside and doesn’t miss opportunities around the rim. Though Brown is a bruising presence in the post, he shows flashes of potential as a stretch five with a solid form on his free throw and three-point attempts.
