Continue ReadingMari Jordan started his Norcross tenure on a high note, going for a double-double and leading Norcross to a solid first win over Sandy Creek. Jordan scored from all 3 levels throughout the night but was at his best when he could get downhill in the open floor. He did a great job on the interior, battling with Micah Smith Micah Smith 6’7″ | SF Sandy Creek | 2024 State #144 Nation GA and grabbing a lot of boards. After signing with UGA last week, Jordan’s sights are now set on a state championship run and his play on Saturday was reflective of that.
Samarion Bond Samarion Bond 6’4″ | SG Norcross | 2023 State GA ‘s role on this year’s Norcross team will be vital, largely because of the experience he brings, having been a big part of last year’s championship team. Bond’s offseason work is apparent right off the bat. He’s a lot stronger and much more explosive than I’ve seen him in the past. He had two highlight dunks that really put his athleticism on full display. Bond’s physicality inside and rebounding ability were also huge for Norcross and will have to be all year as they’ll play without a traditional big man most of the time.
Isaiah Langley
Isaiah Langley
As Berkmar reloads with a completely new group of talent, I wasn’t sure as to who would step up. Sure enough, it was freshman Isaiah Langley that opened a lot of eyes on Saturday. Langley was the only Patriot to score in the first quarter and provided a lot of valuable minutes throughout the game. He finished with 13 points and didn’t shy away from opportunity. With the ball in his hands, Langley looked comfortable and confident. By the looks of game one, Isaiah Langley will be a key piece for Berkmar this year.
Despite losing a tough one to King’s Ridge, John Broom John Broom 6’5″ | SG Jacksonville | 2023 State AL showed a lot of good signs on Saturday for Jacksonville. Broom finished the game with 28 points, connecting on a handful of 3s. He provides good size, length, and versatility on the wing and the more that I watched him, the more I understood why he’s currently signed to South Alabama. With Broom leading the charge, there’s a lot to like about Jacksonville’s team this year.
Aidan Temple Aidan Temple 6’6″ | PF Chattahoochee | 2023 State GA came out of the gates ready to attack on Saturday morning. He was aggressive on the offensive end, getting to his spots and shooting the ball confidently. Temple can play inside or out and has a solid post game that allows him to score against smaller defenders around the paint. He ended up with 22 points and while Chattahoochee wasn’t able to escape with a win, they have to be happy with the way that Aidan Temple Aidan Temple 6’6″ | PF Chattahoochee | 2023 State GA played.
