(pictured) led Wichita Heights to a state title last season. He had so much talent around him, he was able to play point guard in the traditional way, setting up the offense, directing traffic and distributing to scorers. He may show off his ability to create his own shot more this year. He is really tough in transition and plays a physical style in the paint.
But Zeigler isn’t the only stud senior to watch in Wichita. Here are five Wichita seniors who will be in the spotlight (in alphabetical order) this season:
Kapaun’s football team fell to Maize Friday, meaning a future Kansas State quarterback – Avery Johnson Avery Johnson 6’2″ | CG Maize | 2023 KS – ended the high school career of a future Kansas State tight end – Anciaux. The loss puts Anciaux squarely in the basketball spotlight. Will he stick around for the basketball season, or head to Manhattan for spring football? We’ll know soon enough. Rest assured, Kapaun has a bench full of studs who can step in if the big power forward heads off to college.
Barnes is ready for a big senior year after leading the Golden Buffaloes to a solid season a year ago. He’s a slick ball handler who breaks down a defense and creates shots for himself and teammates. He uses his length to tip passes, pick pockets and grab a lot of boards. Last year he averaged 13 points and nearly 5 boards. He doesn’t have to have the ball in his hands either – he finds open jumpers to catch and shoot.
Fair will join Anciaux at KSU. Will it be this winter, or after he gives Collegiate one more basketball season. He was really tough as a junior because he’s powerful, big and really athletic. He can dominate smaller guards in the lane, and he’s too explosive for a lot of bigs. He can run in transition and has a pull up jumper to go with his ability to get to the goal. He’s a nightmare at the defensive end too.
Gray is a versatile big man who hits from deep. He averaged 13 points as a junior and is ready to have a big senior season. He’s another football stud to watch as he makes some decisions.
After looking at all these footballers, here’s a guy totally committed to the hard court. He’s an explosive guard who can play with the ball or off it. He runs the floor, pushes the ball and can finish with explosiveness. He’s solidly built and powerful enough to play through traffic. He creates his own shot when needed.
