Check out some more coverage of the class of 2023 updated prospect rankings below!
Robertson played very well over the course of grassroots season and has an argument to be ranked much higher. He played with the look of a scorer at heart, but he didn’t need to hunt shots. Robertson could score a lot but be efficient in doing so.
McKenzie played some really solid basketball, especially later in the summer and in the early fall. He looks confident in his game and confident in his ability to create and finish offensively. Don’t be surprised when he turns heads this season.
Walker-Berry just like he’s on the verge of something really special. He’s already a high level post defender, but his offense is gaining ground on his defense. Walker-Berry has shown the ability to dominate the glass with toughness and bounciness. This activity on the boards helps him pick up high percentage put back opportunities.
Honestly, Ritter has an argument as to being ranked higher than he is. Put away the stat sheet and put away whatever measurables you’re looking for from a prospect. Put down the pen and paper or cell phone and just watch the kid play basketball. Ritter does what a point guard needs to do and he’s a gamer that will win hustle points. A college coach could get a steal with this young man.

Kendrix is supremely skilled at this ranking number. He is a terror off the bounce and when he’s feeling it, he’s virtually unguardable. Kendrix can change direction at the blink of an eye and can go either way with the ball. I’ve seen him trip up and wrong foot defenders over and over again. Keep an eye on this talented prospect this season.
Pierson is a talented guard that shows up to play with fire and physicality every time out on the floor. He’s done a great job in fine tuning his jumper, which makes him an even tougher cover. Pierson is a high effort defender that’s willing to do whatever it takes on that end of the floor. I can guarantee that there are some college coaches out there that will love what they see from this prospect.
Highlights
Thomas could sneak under the radar, but please scouts and next level coaches, don’t let him. He has some very real upside as a player. Let’s start with his athleticism. Thomas has next level speed and verticality. Quite simply, he can get off the ground and can do it in a hurry. Under the tutelage of Coach Dell Johnson, the rest of his game is filling in quickly. Thomas is a great long term investment for a college coach.
Gilleylen could be on the verge of a breakout season. Breakout season not in terms of talent, but just in terms of people talking about it. He proved his worth as a player last season. Gilleylen proved to be a scorer at heart. He didn’t just score, but he did it in bunches.
One thing is for certain…..This is the lowest that Portenga will ever be ranked. His work ethic and dedication to being the best he can be will make certain that he does nothing but rise in the rankings by the end of this season. He’s adding strength to his frame and versatility to his offensive game.
Chmielewski is a player that is very recruitable and should be on the short list for some college coaches. He’s underestimated as an all around athlete, with the ability to finish athletically at the rim and the ability to defend with athleticism as well. Chmielewski has 3 point range on his jumper and is very comfortable pulling up off the bounce.
