Analysis: The Volcano Vista Hawks were your 2021-22 5A State Champions and have a good chance of running things back in 2022-23. The Hawks lost six really productive seniors from their championship run to graduation this past May, but will return eight players for this years campaign. This is the start of a new era at Volcano Vista with some fresh talent on this roster. They're led by arguably the best Coach in Basketball; Greg Brown who has done a fabulous job winning two state titles in his 12-year tenure with the Hawks. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1176300' first='Kenyon' last='Aguino'] will be a player you hear a lot about all season, he quickly became one of the best big men in the state with his work in the off-season. Center [player_tooltip player_id='1124213' first='Sean' last='Alter'] will continue to be a force down low on both sides with his interior presence. The floor general of this team [player_tooltip player_id='1176305' first='Hudson' last='Brown'], will be a championship caliber point guard until the day he graduates because of his leadership, ball handling and defense. I'm excited to cover Anthony Gonzales, [player_tooltip player_id='1295246' first='EJ' last='Jordan'] and David Gutierrez this season. The reason for that, is all three of them are capable of going off and getting in the zone on any given night. I've seen all three of them put their respective teams on their backs in the off-season while playing winning basketball. All three fit in, Coach Greg Brown's system easily. Devon Ramos is arguably one of, if not the best three-point shooter on this roster and will play a huge role for the Hawks this season. [player_tooltip player_id='1488493' first='Rian' last='Gonzales'] is one of three sophomores on this team and has a bright future ahead of him along with [player_tooltip player_id='1176305' first='Hudson' last='Brown'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1176300' first='Kenyon' last='Aguino']. Two additions to this roster are seniors Lazerik Hill and Micah Quintana. They will both get quality minutes this season and add to the depth of a really good Hawks team. History will tell you that Coach Greg Brown's teams are always competitive year after year and will once again be in the mix for another State Championship.
