Take your pick of any of three West Harrison players who found themselves on the first team, but we’ll go with Sage for this honor. He’s the team’s top playmaker, dishing out over six assists a game, and he is relentless on the glass. He’s the heart-and-soul of this team that qualified for their first ever state tournament last year.
First Team
2023 Sage Evans Sage Evans 6'2" | PF West Harrison | 2023 State IA (West Harrison): 13.6 points, 13.9 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 3.4 steals, 51.8 FG%, 48.4 3P%
Evans looks like a defensive end, but he makes a major impact on the game on the hardwood. He’s the top returnee in the conference in rebounding, assists, and steals, and he scores at a highly efficient clip for the Hawkeyes.
2023 Koleson Evans Koleson Evans 6'6" | SF West Harrison | 2023 State IA (West Harrison): 14.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.8 steals, 1.3 blocks, 80.0 FT%
A skilled 6-5/6-6 wing who is a much better shooter than he showed last year, Evans is probably the best college prospect in the conference. He can score from all three levels and he uses his length really well on the defensive end to contest shots and get into passing lanes.
2023 Mason King Mason King 5'10" | PG West Harrison | 2023 State IA (West Harrison): 15.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 2.2 steals, 48.6 FG%, 45.7 3P%, 80.6 FT%
A knockdown shooter who emerged as a fantastic third option for the Hawkeyes last season, King actually led the team in scoring and served as a high-level playmaker for this group.
2023 Lance Clayburg (Coon Rapids-Bayard): 13.0 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals, 1.0 blocks, 59.4 FG%
Clayburg averaged a double-double as a junior and should see his numbers skyrocket following the graduations of a pair of double-figure scorers. He ranked third on the Crusaders in scoring as a junior but it will be the Clayburg show during his senior year.
2024 Cash Emgarten (Exira-EHK): 12.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 2.1 steals
Emgarten led a very young Spartans team in scoring last year and will be the focal point of opposing game-plans as a junior. If anyone in the league is going to push West Harrison at the top, look at Exira, who returns their top 10 scorers from last year’s team.
