Indiana High School Basketball teams are now allowed two on court days a week and we take that opportunity to start previewing the upcoming season. So far, I’ve visited Fishers, North Central, Avon, Connersville, Kokomo, Cathedral, Franklin, Crispus Attucks, Ben Davis, Richmond, Zionsville, Carmel, Bishop Chatard, and Guerin Catholic. After being out of town last week and not making it to any workouts, I was back on the road this week starting at Noblesville on Tuesday morning. Let’s dive into the Millers.
Roster Breakdown
Head Coach Scott McClelland went 13-11 in his first season at helm in Noblesville. They knocked off Zionsville in the first round of Section 8, but they lost to Carmel to end their season. Now, the Millers return a lot and should be among the better teams in the greater Indianapolis area. Cathedral and Ben Davis have likely earned “Tier One” status in that debate, but Noblesville certainly belongs in the conversation with the rest of the programs. Returning three double-figure scorers, plus another who averaged over nine points per game, is a really good starting point.
Senior guard Luke Almodovar Luke Almodovar 6'2" | SG Noblesville | 2023 State IN had an excellent summer and has seen his recruiting really start to take off heading into his senior season. He now holds offers from Judson, Saint Francis, Ohio Dominican, and Indiana Tech. The 6’2″ left-handed scorer averaged 12.6 points per game as a junior and shot 37% from beyond the arc. Almodovar is an elite athlete who can score it from all three levels and is poised for a big time senior season. If Noblesville reaches their ceiling, it will likely be because Almodovar plays like one of the better players in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference.
Noblesville also brings back their leading scorer from a year ago in junior guard Aaron Fine Aaron Fine 6'3" | PG Noblesville | 2024 State IN . Fine averaged 13.7 points per game and will offer an excellent one-two punch in the backcourt next to Almodovar. The 6’3″ guard is super skilled, will man the point guard duties a lot this season, and provides additional shooting from three-point range. Expect Fine to be an Indiana Junior All-Star candidate this season.
The other top returners on the wing for the Millers are seniors Preston Roberts Preston Roberts 6'5" | SF Noblesville | 2023 State IN and Cooper Bean Cooper Bean 6'4" | SG Noblesville | 2023 State IN . Roberts is a 6’5″ freak athlete who can play the three through five spots on the floor. He handles the ball well enough to create off of the bounce, finishes up above the rim at the end of his drives, and can guard any position on the floor. Roberts averaged 10.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game last season. Bean might the Millers best catch-and-shoot threat after knocking in 40% from beyond the arc last year while averaging 9.2 points per game.
Another likely starter for the Millers this season will be 6’5″ junior Hunter Walston Hunter Walston 6'6" | SF Noblesvile | 2024 State IN . After an excellent summer, Walston has played his way into taking over a larger this season. He was a role player off of the bench as a sophomore averaging 2.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. Walton is a versatile presence on the offensive end, plays with an extremely high basketball IQ, and will defend his position very well. While Noblesville doesn’t have the raw size of some other teams in the area, Roberts and Walston have proven to be able to take on larger opponents successfully.
Rounding out the rotation for Noblesville will be a couple of younger guys in sophomore Aiden Brewer Aiden Brewer 6'4" | PF Noblesville | 2025 State IN and freshman Justin Curry. Brewer is a football player who provides some athleticism and strength to the Millers roster. He got a little bit of varsity experience as a freshman but will definitely be a significant rotation piece providing some depth this year. Curry is a potential X-Factor who could potentially raise the level of the team even as a freshman. He is one of the top 2026 prospects in the state and had an assistant from Butler there watching him on Tuesday. The 6’3″ guard is an excellent athlete who moves fluidly around the floor and has skill level beyond his years. Curry can provide some additional outside shooting while also possessing the ability to attack closeouts off the dribble and finish up around the rim.
Season Outlook
Sectional 8 is officially the toughest in the state now. Fishers, Zionsville, and Carmel will all be preseason Top 10 teams with legitimate state championship aspirations. Defending sectional winner Westfield isn’t going to just relinquish their throne, and Hamilton Southeastern is a year older and feels like they will have something to say as well. It will be no easy task for Noblesville to cut down the nets. However, a strong core of returners mixed with some young talent will allow them to be a real contender come March. If nothing else, expect to see the Millers to improve on their 13-11 record from last season and become a team that nobody wants to play by the end of the year.
