There was plenty of talent on hand at the league, including several players from Prise Academy, a second-year prep school program in Columbia that is run by basketball trainer Chantiel “Pep” Stanciel. Here is a look at some of the top players from Prise that caught our eye.
Kaylon Mason: A 6’7″ lefty small forward with good length and explosive athleticism. He started off the game scoring on slashing drives to the basket, then he showcased his extended range from beyond the 3-point line. He threw down some tomahawk dunks in transition while making a few chase-down blocks at the rim. He is a definite Division I prospect who can impact the game at both ends of the court.
Jamod Robinson: A 5’10” post-grad point guard who played last season at Confluence Prep. He has tremendous quickness and ball skills, which make him a very tough player to defend. He was breaking down defenders and getting into the lane to get buckets while also pulling up from 3-point range. He was also taking and making big shots in clutch situations.
Alonzo Johnson: A 6’3″ post-grad shooting guard who has a smooth offensive game with the ability to score at all three levels. His mid-range jumper was very effective and he was pulling up and knocking down 3-pointers. He plays the game at a nice even pace, where he is always under control.
Sean Conway: A 5’10” 2023 point guard who is quick and head excellent end to end speed in the transition game. He’s a pass first guard who distributed the ball well. I also liked that he fed his bigger teammates when they ran the court, even when he had an easy layup himself. Very unselfish. He is a solid defender who can really pressure the ball well.
Vladislav Yifemenko: A 6’7″ 2023 forward from the Ukraine who has good length and a versatile skill set. He was very good when facing the basket, which he showed on a few impressive takes to the basket that ended up in dunks. He had the folks in the building buzzing when he threw them down. He can shoot the 3-pointer to stretch the defense and he has a nice jump hook in the lane.
Demetrio Barlow: A 6’2″ post-grad shooting guard who played at KIPP Academy in St. Louis last season. He is an excellent offensive player with a physical body that enables him to attack the basket with strength. In his second game, he was lighting it up from 3-point range off the catch.
Dezavion Waller: A 6’3″ post-grad wing who was constantly moving and bringing the energy and activity. He’s long and wiry strong with the ability to slash to the basket and score in traffic. He was also cutting very hard and getting buckets off of his good movement. He also crashed the offensive boards well for putbacks.
Javiah Maldanado: A 5’11” 2024 combo guard who has a thick body and a solid offensive game. He used his strength to score in the lane amongst the trees on the downhill drive. He also got his share of rebounds. He was also knocking down the Corner 3-pointer.
