Here are five “breakout candidates” from Northeast Kansas (in alphabetical order):
Andy Baker
Andy Baker
One of the biggest young players in the small schools of northeast Kansas, Baker impressed in the summer. He moves with agility and quickness for his size and works hard at both ends of the court. He has soft hands and touch around the goal. With the graduation of big man Ryan Feldkamp, Baker may be called on to provide size and strength in the post.
There were times in summer action when Kim (pictured) would take over games for SSA Hoops Elite. He plays with a lot of energy and aggressiveness, but remains under control. He handles the ball well and penetrates to get jumpers in the midrange. He makes good decisions but never hesitates when he sees a good shot. He can shoot it from deep at a high clip. He is a physical player who gets fouled a lot on drives to the hoop.

Royal Valley turns over its entire starting five, so there will be lots of opportunities to be had. Murata showed this summer he can handle the ball and run the show. He is creative off the bounce and athletic. The Panthers will be looking for someone to score, and Murata may be a top option.
Josh Zarybnicky

Hanover turns over a ton of talent and will be in need of leadership. The senior Zarybnicky has played a ton of meaningful basketball and should be ready for a bigger role. He averaged 8 points and 5 boards as a junior, but led Hanover with 15 points and 12 rebounds in the state championship loss to Greeley County.
