The licking county area is sometimes overlooked on the basketball end but Varrasso is a prospect who I watched with Nova’s top 16 U team and ended up very impressed with his game. He has the burst and ball-handling to get where he needs to go in the paint and wasn’t afraid of playing on the UA Rise circuit. After an impressive Sophomore season, Varrasso could be the best player in the licking country league as a Junior because the conference lost a lot of senior talent to graduation.
Harmon Jr is a prospect who stood out at Midwest Live when Walnut Hills was playing without Tyler McKinley. A few months later McKinley announced his transfer to Prep school power Link Academy (MO) which means Walnut Hills is looking for a leader next season and Harmon Jr could be that guy. I was impressed with his overall floor general skills, being able to score while also getting his teammates involved. While losing McKinley is a huge blow, I still expect Walnut Hills to compete for a conference title in 2022-23.
Tucker is the third new guard from Westerville Central added to our rankings and has the most on-ball creation ability of the trio. Tucker has the ball on a string and can get to the paint whenever he wants. If Tucker can improve his play-making ability and use his dribble-drive game to kick out to open shooters, the Warhawks will be very tough to defend in 2022-23. Tucker is another talented guard who doesn’t let his size prevent him from finishing at the rim over bigger shot blockers.
