I have put ink on Jackson before, and he continues to develop as a solid frontcourt player. His 6’8 body takes up a lot of space in the paint and makes it hard for opponents to get anything going in the post area. He is not the most nimble player, but he has shown that he can suppress opponents’ percentages around the basket. He is not a flashy player but is productive in what he does when it comes to scoring in the post, on put-backs, and on offensive rebounds. He is a big-bodied post with developing footwork while having post defense and passing that can easily be undervalued. He is developing, which is what I see from the last time I put ink on him to this time. I spoke with him after the games, and he was talking about his knees; and it is possible that he is about to grow again, and if he gets another 2-3 inches, we are having another type of conversation about the big man from Hoover.

I often get asked by parents how their son can get noticed when they are not the most potent scorer or selfish player looking to always shoot. That may sound harsh, but I often get asked that latter type of question. Well, if I could take Emerson and film his play from the Elite 60 camp, I would use his play as an answer. There is one thing that got Emerson in my notes, and that was his tenacity on defense. He was giving ball-handlers fits as he picked up full-court just about every time he was on the floor. He made the opponents earn every piece of real estate on the court. Being 5’6, unless you are a potent and prolific scorer, you will often have to find your niche and find a way to earn your time on the court. Emerson has found his niche that would earn him some time with many coaches who still value a hard-nosed gritty defender at the offense’s point of attack. Big shot out to Emerson and his work on the defensive end of the floor.

Kentaevion was a handful for defenders throughout the day. He was one of the toughest iso scorers and was in attack mode every time he got the ball. His energy was high and contagious. Kentarvion functioned as a triple threat player that contributed as a shooter, passer, and driver and was productive in all three areas. He has a quick burst off the bounce and creative body control once near the rim. It is not hard to see his potential as a night-in and night-out double-digit scorer, as he literally tries to dominate each possession. He is definitely a player to keep an eye on over the next couple of years.

JC was an offensive juggernaut that stood under 6’0 and had a phenomenal showing at camp. He shot the ball exceptionally well from beyond the arc and did so in c&s opportunities and pull up treys off the bounce. When looking to continue dissecting Jayden’s game, you must acknowledge the many different components of things he does so well. He is a high IQ player that understands the game at a young age. He knows how to move without the ball and cut with purpose, he is a playmaker with the ball in his hands, he thrives in attacking the rim in the open court, and his end-to-end speed makes him difficult to contain with just one defender. What was even more impressive about JC’s game was his commitment to the defensive end of the floor while being such a force to reckon with on the offensive end. I will be following JC to see how his game will stack up in his first year in high school.

Corey Howard, Jr. (6’4/C)

In most areas of the game, a 6’4 center is not considered good positional size. However, for the Elite 60, the 6’4 frame was enough to be very impactful. One of the things that separated him from most of the frontcourt players at camp was his motor. He just kept coming on each possession, and his physical play wore down opponents over the course of the game. His activity on defense and on the glass was at a level that many could not match. Corey plays with an edge and is incredibly disruptive defensively as the kind of player who can blow up a pick-and-roll by attacking a ball handler or by erasing shots in the paint as a rim protector. Offensively his low-block isolation style on offense was almost unstoppable throughout camp. His mobility is central to his value on both ends, as he is a major factor on both ends of the floor.

Frank had an outstanding showing at camp and had a spectacular game with some timely buckets in the contest I saw him play. He showed a lot of versatility on both ends of the floor and brought an often unmatched toughness to the court. He often gravitated to the lead-guard spot and initiated the offense throughout the game. He was looking for his shot early and was a threat to score the rock every time he touched the ball. His dribble penetration created a lot of problems for the defense and forced a lot of help leaving open shooters ready for the dish. Frank made the right decisions with the ball in his hands, and often the decision was to call his own number. He made some tough shots off the bounce and was efficient from mid-range. His activity on the glass was also noticeable for the wing player, that flashed a lot of potential.
