With that being said, there are a ton of players flying under the radar that deserve more regional attention. Here are a few players that fit that mold:
Kinney, a do-it-all combo guard, is someone that I’ve had the opportunity to watch live in-person. What jumps out about Kinney is his leadership. He’s a vocal leader, and a player that continually uplifts teammates and brings great energy. On the court, Kinney is a deadeye 3-point shooter from the catch. He’s great from both corners , as he’ll typically get there in transition. An underrated passer, Kinney has the makings and tools to be an excellent glue guy at the next level.
Badru, a high-flying combo guard, is a player that brings great versatility and athleticism to any program he plays for. He’s a hardcore competitor. He’s active defensively and demands the ball on offense. He’s capable of getting you a bucket with his fluidity, athleticism, and slashing ability. He’s got a great motor, and this hyper-activity really helps Badru in transition and on the defensive end in the half-court. The hustle and competitiveness that Badru brings will certainly attract a ton of attention from college programs.
Alekseyenko is a skilled 6’7″ wing that’s got a great handle and excellent floor awareness for his size. So yes, he’s super skilled for the position. He can shoot spot-up triples and has flashed some creativity off-the-dribble. Alekseyenko’s greatest attribute is arguably his playmaking ability. He’s got a great feel for the game and makes a ton of high-level reads. As he continues to develop as an on-ball defender and off-the-dribble creator, Alekseyenko is someone that’s going to attract a lot of attention with his skillset and ability and size.
McCall, a St. Sebastian’s product, is a physical, downhill-attacking guard that’s improving as a shot-creator and shooter. I had the opportunity to watch McCall at the Prep Hoops New England Top-250 expo, and he shined as an aggressive on-ball defender and half-court passer. He’s got an excellent feel for the game. As the scoring becomes more consistent with experience and practice, McCall is still going to impress thanks to his physical gifts and high-level feel for the game. Once he takes that next step, McCall is going to get a lot more text messages.
