The PHI Freshman Showcase had an abundance of talent in the building this past weekend. Here is a look at some of the top guards from the event in PHI Freshman Showcase: Parham's Top Guards!

Eliel Argundo Tenorio 5'3 (OPRF)

Smaller guard who shot the ball really well from three. Eliel can play on or off the ball in games. Has a solid handle and moves the ball when he takes lead guard spot. Tough competitor who isn't afraid to guard 94 feet.

[player_tooltip player_id='1552444' first='Carter' last='Newsome'] 5'6 (Waukegan)

Carter is a slick ball handler who can beat almost anyone off the dribble in one on one situations. Newsom is wired to score the ball he is a three level player and once he picks up the flow of a high school game he can become dangerous player.

[player_tooltip player_id='1552467' first='James' last='Ford III'] 5'7 (Beloit Memorial)

Ford dynamic guard who made a mark early with his defense. He was able to strip opposing players and covert the steals into points. James is dependable lead guard who commands attention and is capable to score and facilitate the basketball.

Akir Finley 5'9 (Marist)

Finley is a smooth scoring guard who can shoot it at a high rate from the three and mid-range. He has a couple of combo moves that he uses to get his shot off. One thing I like about Akir is his pace of the game. He never seemed to feel rattled even with guys guarding him very aggressively.

[player_tooltip player_id='1552468' first='Terell' last='Horton Jr']. 5'7 (Waubonsee)

Horton is a high functioning pass first PG. He makes a lot of moves with the ball only to lure defenders to sleep and make accurate passes to teammates. At his size he can become a better shooter but makes up with it by being a pesky on ball defender and a willingly facilitator.

[player_tooltip player_id='1552417' first='Jordan' last='Walker'] 5'9 (Leo)

Walker is a solid guard that plays with his eyes up looking to make plays for others as well as himself.

[player_tooltip player_id='1552481' first='Rocco' last='Pagliocca'] 6'2 (Stevenson)

Rocco is a skilled guard with size. He can attack off the dribble using either hand. Pagliocca is at his best when he's shooting the three. As he continues to add range he is absolute money from the arc and will be an instant contributor on the high school level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1552454' first='Nik' last='Umapathy'] 5'8 (Stevenson)

Nik is a crafty guard who isn't the fastest or strongest but is very good at getting to spots on the court to make plays. He has an above average IQ of the game and it made the players around him better. Nik shot the ball pretty well and found creative ways to finish in the lane over taller defenders. He may be a better fit at point guard but can play off the ball as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='1552395' first='Sean' last='Day'] 5'11 (Downers Grove South)

Day maybe had the coolest haircut in the gym but his shooting stroke caught the attention of parents and onlookers on Saturday. Sean is a player who finds open spots on the court and is open as soon as his teammates find him. He has a quick release on his jump shot and it touched nothing, but the bottom of the net when he shoots it.

[player_tooltip player_id='1552399' first='Donovan' last='Cobbs'] 6'0 (St. Viator)

Donovan is slashing lefty guard that loves attacking the rim. He has solid size for his position as an off guard. Cobbs has a decent shot that will continue to get better over time. He is solid rebounder as well for his position. Donovan will be a crafty guard who lives at the free throw line because he isn't afraid to take a hit when driving to the bucket.

[player_tooltip player_id='1552394' first='Andre' last='Tyler'] 6'2 (St. Rita)

Tyler is uber confident guard that plays with a lot of bounce. He can get separation on his shot with a simple crossover and he can finish at the rim with an array of moves. Andre is competitor who at times will get to chirping at opposing players when the game is at a high point. I can see him being one of the better scoring guards in the class.
