Ohio State grabs in-state trio

The Buckeyes have always made recruiting the top in-state talent a priority and after striking gold with Malaki Branham in the 2021 recruiting class, the Buckeyes are hoping one of [player_tooltip player_id='867951' first='Devin' last='Royal'], [player_tooltip player_id='1043600' first='George' last='Washington III'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1052783' first='Austin' last='Parks'] can have the same success wearing the scarlet and grey.

Pitt heads to Brush looking for another star

After landing 2020 four star prospect John Hugley, the Pitt Panthers went to the Brush pipeline once again, with the commitment of [player_tooltip player_id='867929' first='Marlon' last='Barnes']. Barnes is one of the sweetest shooting wing prospects in the state and has the wingspan to become an impact defender down the line. Hugley is looking for an all-conference season with the Panthers in 2022-23 and Pitt fans are excited for another Chet Mason product to wear the Blue and Gold.

Indiana grabs another SW Ohio state champion

Indiana last went to Ohio to grab Moeller star center Logan Duncomb in the 2021 class. [player_tooltip player_id='867934' first='Gabe' last='Cupps'] is the next Ohio prospect committed to the Hoosiers as the state champion will look to help bring Indiana back to their former glory. Duncomb played nine games as a freshman and will look to crack the regular rotation this winter. Cupps actually ended Duncomb's high school career in the regional finals in a 40-38 thriller, that season Cupps would lead his Elks to the state championship in UD Arena.

Steele, Pedon target Ohio prospects at new jobs

Travis Steele and Ryan Pedon both accepted head coaching jobs this off-season and the pair have each snagged a prospect from Ohio's 2023 class to join them in their second season at the new school. Steele was fired from Xavier University but now finds himself leading Miami (OH) in the Mid American Conference. Steele grabbed Cincinnati Taft star [player_tooltip player_id='1088811' first='Eian' last='Elmer'] as his first signing from Ohio at the new school. Pedon on the other hand made the jump from assistant to head coach as the former Ohio State assistant was hired for the Illinois State job. Pedon grabbed [player_tooltip player_id='1052782' first='Chase' last='Walker'] of St Charles to be the first future Redhawk from the Buckeye state in his tenure. Look for both coaches to continue to use their Ohio ties to recruit this area.

Kent State grabs Midwest Basketball Club duo

Midwest Basketball Club was one of the top 17 U teams in the country this year and a pair of their players will be Kent State Golden Flashes starting in the 2023-24 season. [player_tooltip player_id='1052781' first='Donovan' last='Hunter'] and [player_tooltip player_id='867938' first='Lance' last='Hayes'] both committed to the MAC program that was led by former northeast Ohio star Sincere Carry last season. Expect the Golden Flashes to continue to make Ohio a priority area for recruiting as they've already been very active offering 2024 Ohio prospects and hosting 2025 Ohio prospects on visits.

Wright State continues strong in-state recruiting

Wright State is a program who has had a lot of success recruiting in-state talent in the past couple years. Star Tanner Holden, who recently transferred to Ohio State was a Wheelersburg product and point guard Keaton Norris is a big part of their plans for the next three seasons. Wright State grabbed local shooter [player_tooltip player_id='867928' first='DayJaun' last='Anderson'] and northeast Ohio point guard [player_tooltip player_id='976068' first='Solomon' last='Callaghan'] in their 2023 class.

Nutter uses strong team camp showing to accept Division I offer

[player_tooltip player_id='922602' first='Ryan' last='Nutter'] is one of the most vocal point guards I've covered in the state of Ohio. Nutter has all the intangibles that you'd want the leader of your team to demonstrate. After a strong performance at their team camp in June and a couple big games in the first live period of July, Nutter was offered by Marshall University. It didn't take long for Nutter to accept that offer and secure his future at the Division I program.

West Liberty snags a pair of Ohio point guards

West Liberty plays a unique brand of basketball where they average almost 100 PPG. To do this they sub quickly early in the game and apply lots of defensive pressure and push the pace with the ball in their hands. To do this they need capable ball handlers and the Hilltoppers think they found a pair from Ohio's 2023 class. [player_tooltip player_id='976070' first='Kyler' last='D'Augustino'] is the top recruit from southeast Ohio and Terrance Pankey the top recruit from the Youngstown area each decided to commit to the Division II powerhouse.

Prep Hoops event standouts make their decision

Two Prep Hoops Circuit standouts have committed after receiving scholarship offers in the summer. [player_tooltip player_id='1225049' first='Julian' last='Mitchell'], a wing shooter from R4L is headed to Taylor University and [player_tooltip player_id='1165508' first='Trenton' last='Collins'] from [program_tooltip program_id='2078641' first='Mid' last='Ohio Pumas'] Sliemers is committed to Delta State University. Finally, [player_tooltip player_id='1090155' first='Cyan' last='Ervin'] who was a standout at the Prep Hoops 250 Expo last Fall has committed to Rio Grande University.
