The lifting of the restrictions during the season, and heading into the spring, and summer has allowed PH NorCal to see prospects from all over NorCal. We make every effort to see as many prospects as we can, that includes traveling to SoCal, and other states to see NorCal prospects against quality competition. Here’s our updated list of Newcomers to this class.
Jacob Gilchrist Jacob Gilchrist 6'6" | SF Twelve Bridges | 2024 State CA-N 6’6 G/F of Twelve Bridges HS
We got a glimpse of Gilchrist potential before the live viewing period heading into the spring. It didn’t take long to see he’s a quality prospect in this class. He was productive and played quality minutes during the live periods in front of college coaches playing up on the PHPS 17U squad. He’s a skilled player who can play multiple positions on the court. He has the skills to handle the ball on the perimeter, he passes and creates for himself, and others, he can hit the outside shot. He has the size and toughness to go inside for points, and rebounds.
Contevious Tayler 6’5 SF/PF of Independence (Featured)
He’s a confident, skilled player with the tools to play on the perimeter, along with the strength and toughness to dominate in the post at the 16U level. Don’t be fooled by the extra body weight, he carries it well on the perimeter, and uses it to his advantage. He has balance, and is strong with his dribble drive into the paint. He’ll hit short jumpers off the dribble, and knock down the 3ptr in rhythm with a quick release. He handles the physical play, and he rebounds.
Aaron Hunkin-Claytor Aaron Hunkin-Claytor 6'3" | PG Salesian Prep | 2024 State CA-N 6’2 PG of Salesian Prep HS
He’ll play at Salesian Prep after transferring in from Hawaii. He’ll have an opportunity to show us his high IQ point guard skills here in NorCal on a regular basis. He had a good spring and summer playing up, and running point on the SF Rebel 17U squad. He plays with good pace, has quality handles, and the ability to go by defenders and into the paint to score, or set up teammates with his vision and quality passing skills. He’ll defend, and has an improving outside shot.
Gabriel Williams 6’4 SF of Mountain House HS.
He’s a two sport athlete (Football) with good size and strength. He plays well 15ft and in. He has a good touch on the short jumper, he’ll use a dribble or two to beat his defender off the dribble. He goes up strong off two feet working for rebounds, and points in the paint. He’s has the body and strength to be a solid post defender at this level.
Brandon Gibson Brandon Gibson 6'5" | SF Monterey Trail | 2024 State CA-N 6’4 G/SF of Monterey Trail HS
All indications are Gibson is ready to be a contributor on a solid team this season. The big guard is strong, with good handles, he doesn’t mind the physical play, and uses his strength to go get a bucket inside, he’ll finish in transition. He had a good spring and summer playing with Team Lillard 16U on the Adidas Circuit.
Lucien Bailey Lucien Bailey 6'5" | SF California | 2024 State CA-N 6’5 G/F of El Cerritos HS
Bailey a versatile thick body athlete with an improving set of skills that allows him to be an effective player in different areas of the court. First and foremost he’s strong and hard to guard when he’s balanced and going up around the basket. He has good handles and movement to beat his defender off the dribble from the baseline and right outside the key. He can hit the short jumper, get rebounds. He can do some handling away from the basket, and is a willing passer.
Jaylen Wheeler Jaylen Wheeler 6'2" | PG Fremont Oakland | 2024 State CA-N 6’0 PG Salesian Prep HS/ Benicia HS
A slick and quick handling guard who has the handles and speed to generate points for himself and others. He has a good mix of skills knowing when to be aggressive for his points, and patience for when it’s time to run the offense, and get others going. He might be a combo right now, nonetheless he has a good mid-range jumper off the dribble, fearless attacking the paint. He has the speed and determination to be a disruptor on the defensive side of the ball.
Cayden Ward Cayden Ward 6'5" | SF St. Mary's Stockton | 2024 State CA-N 6’3 G/W/F Saint Mary’s HS, Stockton.
He’s wiry, athletic, and plays with good energy. He has a good set of skills that allows him to be a contributor in different ways on the court. He has length, and hops going up high for rebounds, and finishes around the rim. He has improving handles, and passing to operate in the open court, on the perimeter, and in transition. He’s a good court runner filling lanes, and finishing in transition around the rim along with an occasional dunk. His length and foot speed makes him a player who can guard multiple positions.
Evan McKnight Evan McKnight 6'10" | C Ygnacio Valley | 2024 State CA-N 6’10 Center of Ygnacio Valley HS
He’s a long tall prospect. He has some work to do polishing up his skill-set for the post position on both ends of the court. He gives good effort going after rebounds and trying to be a rim protector in the paint. He’s an okay defender, moves good enough, but will have to get stronger as he progresses at the position. He’s a target, has a drop step and, and a jump hook. He has a nice frame to fill.
Adaarion Strauthers 6’4 W/SF of Laguna Creek HS
We saw enough of Strauther during the live period to know the two sport athlete (Football) is a strong, athletic player and can be a factor when he’s on the basketball court. He has a good enough set of skills to play on the perimeter. He’s fast and strong heading towards the rim for dunk and other finishes in transition. He has good hops, plays well in the paint off two feet, he’ll go get rebounds, and put-back points in the paint.
