Tysen Gerads Tysen Gerads 6'3" | SG Albany | 2023 State MN of Albany/Minnesota Comets Gagner. I did not have a great idea of how good Tysen was until I saw him this spring. The first impression was solid. The second impression over the summer was strong. He’s got good wing size at the d2 level, good skill, and good explosion. That combination along with being consistently productive, has the making for a top Class AA senior and a solid D2 prospect.
Wyatt Hawks Wyatt Hawks 6'8" | C White Bear Lake | 2023 State MN of White Bear Lake/Northstar Titans. I remember some winter box scores and some rim finishes last winter but when I first saw Hawks play he was unknown to me. He was at first productive but then Hawks became aggressive and consistent. He finished aggressively and rebounded in bulk. The face-up touch then followed. Wyatt Hawks Wyatt Hawks 6'8" | C White Bear Lake | 2023 State MN went from a mid level D3 prospect to a multi-offered D2 talent in about three months. And he helps make White Bear Lake a legit Section 4AAAA contender.
Eli Laposky Eli Laposky 6'1" | PG Pequot Lakes | 2023 State MN of Pequot Lakes/Minnesota Comets. What I saw from Eli was things a college coach and a teammate would love: consistency, leadership, toughness, and the ability to make sure the offense gets the best shot a higher percentage of time than their opponents game to game. Loved watching him in the huddle, I loved how he made shooting easier for his teammates, and I really enjoyed his competitive battle. Good get for Bemidji State.
Jessye Lewis of Hiawatha Collegiate/J Sizzle. Lewis had a good summer shooting the basketball and he did a really good job at the few camps he attended at different college campuses. When I saw him play Lewis did a great job moving the basketball but when the time came to score Lewis gave it to his team. I’m really interested to see how Lewis plays this winter because the mix of a solid percentage shooting at the arc and being a strong delivery man is one that is rarer than people think.
Trey Smith Trey Smith 6'7" | SF Osseo | 2023 State MN of Osseo/Northstar Titans. The rise of Trey Smith Trey Smith 6'7" | SF Osseo | 2023 State MN . Honestly, I always felt like I would see Trey Smith Trey Smith 6'7" | SF Osseo | 2023 State MN play and think “that has to be the best of what he can do, right?” and then we would see Trey take his game to another level. Last year he made himself known as a defensive stopped, and then he was solid at Osseo as a junior, and then he was making explosive plays in the spring, and then he was hitting threes in the early summer, and by the end of the summer Trey Smith Trey Smith 6'7" | SF Osseo | 2023 State MN was looking like a 6’6/6’7 division one athletic wing.
Aeron Stevens Aeron Stevens 6'7" | PF Plainview-Eligin-Millville | 2023 State MN of PEM/MN Lightning. When I saw Aeron play in the winter he was a solid big playing well in a system. I expected him to have a good summer but never expected what we saw. It started with the face-up game and then became his explosive consistent production against D1 and D2 full offered players. Stevens – who has committed to Southwest Minnesota State – become one of the top few D2 prospects and a guy that I think could have eventually earned a D1 opportunity although the D2 schollys he got were fantastic (and in a lot of cases, better than some D1 low major options).
Will Underwood Will Underwood 6'0" | PG Mahtomedi | 2023 State MN of Mahtomedi/Howard Pulley. It was great to pop in some Howard Pulley videos (that’s an old term, it’s really hitting play online) and see that Will Underwood Will Underwood 6'0" | PG Mahtomedi | 2023 State MN was moving and playing in a way somewhat close to what he was doing before he got injured. Watching Underwood aggressively push with pace, finish in a blitz ahead of the help or the retreat, and do it with good numbers was fun to see. It will be great to see Will and Owen Carlson Owen Carlson 6'3" | SG Mahtomedi | 2023 State MN together push a Zephyrs team that is top five level in Class AAA.
