Below is Part II in our review of “New Names” from southeastern PA (and beyond) who impressed us during the final stretch of July 2022 grassroots action.
Kasey Fleming Kasey Fleming 6'3" | SG George | 2026 State PA – 6’2” / Sophomore / LaSalle CHS / Philly Revolution / Shooting Guard: Fleming is a two-way prospect who makes positive contributions at both ends of the court. On offense, Fleming’s primary scoring method is knocking down triples at an astonishing rate. Fleming also has crafty handles so he can navigate through traffic for a lay-in. At the other end, Fleming’s intense defensive efforts frequently produce steals / deflections which lead to easy fast break buckets for his team.
Madyx Gruber Madyx Gruber 5'11" | CG Wilson | 2025 State PA – 5’10″ / Sophomore / Wilson / Team Final Red / Point Guard: A defensive menace who is constantly knifing through passing lanes or picking pockets, Gruber scores a good deal of his points on lay-ins. He can also play distributor in the transition game. In the half-court, Gruber is extremely effective at using change of pace dribbles to get past his man and to the cup for a lay-in. However, if a defender sags off him, Gruber will not hesitate to splash home threes.
Thaddeus Lee – 6’7″ / Junior / Lancaster Catholic / York Ballers / Wing: This extraordinarily long and athletic wing can initiate a fast break with a rebound, a steal, or a blocked shot. He can then fill a lane on that break and finish the play off with a slam. In the half-court Lee is a respectable three-point shooter with range beyond the arc. Plus, he is a valuable big man to have if your system runs a good deal of pick-n-roll / pop action. Lee has displayed the ability to put the ball on the deck to get to his pull jumper.
Julian Sadler – 6’2″ / Junior / Perkiomen Valley / Prim3Tim3-PA / Combo Guard: This dynamic lefty guard prospect gets downhill quickly and is constantly attacking the basket with his creative dribbles. The frenetic pace Sadler plays with gets him into the paint for lay ups, drop passes to waiting big men or drive and kick assists. When Sadler (pic above) is not putting continuous pressure on opposing defenses with his dribble drive skills, he is hitting three pointers from all around the arc. Sadler is an effective one dribble pull up shooter and his jump shot possesses “logo range”. Sadler is as a prospect we will be watching closely this fall / winter.
Trey Surovec – 5’10″ / Sophomore / CB East / SJ Titans / Combo Guard: Whether he is on the fast break or in the half-court, Surovec is a high IQ, pass first, floor general style of lead guard. When he is looking to score the ball, Surovec can do it in a variety of ways. He can use his speed and tight handles to go coast to coast for a lay-in. He can also come off a pick-n-roll for a quick mid-range jumper or a drive to the tin. On the perimeter, Surovec’s court awareness and off ball movement enable him to find open spaces from which he can knock home three balls.
